to see me. They are on their way to visit other people in a more distant city. The plan is they will stop, see my home, and pick me up to go to lunch. then they will proceed on their way and i can get home ok. I am nearby. the question is do I offer them anything when they get here to eat or drink? Or, do we just proceed after a few min to the restraurant.

I agree with the other people, have a tray of snacks prepared and a nice selection of refreshing beverages. They are probably going to be exhausted and may even feel like they are imposing on you in some way and do not want to disrupt your routine, they obviously care for you enough to include you in their journey so make them feel at home, maybe they won't be in such a rush to proceed on. Oh what the heck, why not just have them stay for dinner instead of rushing off to a restaurant, spend the night and catch up on old times.

I would offer a drink at least, but the other answerer was correct in saying a fruit of some sort too. Just a simple fruit tray with grapes, strawberries, that sort of thing. Something healthy always makes for a nice break from the garbage we eat while travelling

It would be nice to offer a light refreshment, coffee, juice, fruit, something like that. They'll have just traveled quite a while.

Don't worry about it, have something to drink and eat on hand just in case, but just wait till they get there and see what happens.
