First, skip the Mitsu. They dropped out of the WRC because of unreliability - that gets them a big X (if they can't get it reliable with that size budget, then the road car is likely to be crap, too.) Subaru did well, so that's a check mark for them. Both are AWD - and that may be important if you have to deal with snow.

The Mustang GT is a cool ride, with great retro styling, but I haven't heard much regarding reliability (good or bad.) The GTO is basically a Corvette engine, usually pretty reliable. Style is very European - clean lines, no unnecessary plastic extras (unusual for Pontiac, but it was designed and built in Australia by Holden, and sold over there as the Monaro.) Both of these are RWD - not real good on snow. The GTO has traction control (I don't know about the Mustang) but it could still be a handful in winter. Personally, I like the sleek, aerodynamic look of the GTO over the 'Stang, but both are pretty cool, although coming at it from opposite ends of the spectrum.

Realistically, the STi is probably your best bet for all-weather use. And 300 hp with AWD will probably let you beat any of the others (the V8s make a little more, but are a bit heavier, too.) As for the Evo - it makes about the same hp as the STi, so reliability becomes the main factor. I've heard many complaints about Mitsu lately, and my last one (a '93 Eclipse GS) was terrible. It also looks kind of square-ish, with wings and stuff stuck on all over the bodywork. Pretty ugly.

In any case, whichever you end up with - enjoy it!

well the Subaru and the Lancer are pretty much alike. the gto is only good with the 400 hp. and the mustang GT is good because it has power and ok handling. when you floor it on the mustang GT you can really here the roar in the engine. so my choice would be the mustang GT. if you want the best mustang go with the shelby mustang with 500 hp.

hoped it helped :)

Well I hate jap stuff. So that leaves the Mustang verses the GTO.. The gto is a lot more advanced than the Mustang. . And if the track here means anything it's also faster. My pick GTO 1 Mustang 0

Mustang GT is pure American muscle. A LEGEND. Muscular engines infuse Mustang with tire-smoking performance. The 4.6-liter, aluminum V8 has three valve heads and cranks out 300 horsepower. The engine is paired with a standard five-speed manual or an available five-speed automatic, which provides a unique combination of off-the-line jump and good highway fuel economy.

The standard four-wheel disc brakes have the biggest rotors and stiffest calipers ever fitted to a mainstream Mustang. Twin-piston aluminum calipers clamp down on 12.4-inch ventilated front brake discs. In the rear, the brake rotors are 11.8 inches in diameter.

A four-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS) with traction control is standard on Ford Mustang GT models and available on V6 models. When traction control isn’t desired, drivers can deactivate the system with a button on the instrument panel.

The impreza is fast but much of a Tuner Car. The Lancer is a good deal but my personal 3rd Choice, The goat gets beaten by any of the other according to Motor Trend. I am truly a Mustan Fan so Mustang would be my bet. Plus with so many accesories personalizing the car is infinite.

when I purchased my Mazda 3 last year I research all these vehicles you have mentioned.
I couldn't afford the Subaru Impreza WRX STI or I would have purchased it. Best car on that list for performance/ reliability HANDS DOWN. Awesome car!!!
I wish I would have got it.
