If the judgment has been paid then you need to contact the Credit Bureau (Equifax or Trans Union) and show them the proof that the judgment has been paid and then they will take it off of the file or make a note that it has been paid.
If the judgment has not been paid then it will be on his file for 7 years. After that it is up to the Furniture Store to renew the information.

Judgments will stay on your credit report for 10 years. Derogatory trade lines are submitted by the creditor who can at his discretion remove them. They must, however, be removed from your credit report after 7 years. A judgment is public information. The creditor cannot remove it.

A judgment is one of the easiest types of information for a credit bureau to verify, since the court decisions are public record. It will stay on your credit record for seven years, paid or not.
