Not necessarily. I think that learning the truth from the Bible can cause real changes in a person's thinking. God's words reach right down into our inner being and draw out good things. My life was basically in the toilet and should have been flushed when I started to learn the truth. It was amazing. People who were closest to me then can not even believe I am the same person. Pray for God's holy spirit to help you to understand. Read the Bible daily. Watch for even a glimmer of light. Embrace it but question it thoroughly using the Bible as your measuring stick. May God bless all your efforts.

Of course not. Some people, when they have lost all hope, turn to some religion to seek comfort there.

Also, some turn to religion full of fear rather than hope.

Also, say a person was converting for the sake of a potential marriage partner, they would be accepting the religion to meek the requirements necessary for their partner.

I don't know about hope ; but one should have Love and passion in his/her heart to accept a religion. Its true; that people turn to a particular religion when they are in desperate times ; you drink water , when you are thirsty.so, there's nothing wrong in accepting a religion when that particular belief system gives them peace. and help them to cope up in bad times.
you choose whatever path you wanna ,and follow it with passion and love, rest of the good stuff will definitely come your way.
GOD BLESS.

No, many people accept religions when they are at their darkest hour. I do not believe this is the way to go, I believe in making rational choices.

The only strict criteria is gullibility, but it helps to be uneducated, not particularly smart and desperate to 'fit in' someplace. YOU ARE NOT THAT PERSON. Be strong, let your common sense guide you and you will find the path to a happy fulfilled life.
