Because you CAN'T get rid of a beehive with a stick of dynamite. There's too many "moving parts" to consider (& those parts come after YOU once the smoke clears). Nobody's EVER "controlled" the Middle-east for very long... -Not Alexander The Great, or Caesar, or the Turks... They're a riotous collection of tribes that are NEVER at peace with each other -UNLESS they are invaded from the outside. THEN they join forces, and keep on sniping away at the "infidels"- until the outsiders are finally driven out. And they've ALWAYS succeeded.

Yes, you need new leadership. Maybe little bit more autocratic regime, even dictatorship.
Let’s look at two Chechen wars. The first one was completely disaster – after two bloody years this region becomes the nest of crime and terrorism. Please bear in mind – Russia has enough power to blow up the world maybe not 100 but 99 times.
Than Putin becomes the leader. And regardless my disgust feeling to him he wins this war. Why?
I believe the receipt is simple and consists of some non-democratic ingredients. First of all –forget about public opinion. At the same time feed the hatred against your enemies. It should be very clear who they are and how they barbaric. Move the press off. Forget about world reaction. Give to your army as much as they request and double it. Be blind when thinking about victims of this war. And it should be only desire of your leader – to win this war.
This is the price for the victory. The price for four-years-old suspicion about Saddam’s nuclear bomb.

We have the best leadership. Bush is doing a good job. It is a real shame that you have been so brainwashed and not even out of middle school yet. There is no way that you know anything about what is really going on in Iraq, if you did, you would not post such a dumb statement. The Democrats does not want us to win the war in Iraq, they do not support our troops, and you sound like one of the spawns, called Demoncrat.

He wants to win this war, as many people do, but how can we win if the left keeps spinning it as if we are losing. Please explain how we are losing the war. The US toppled Saddam, and control most of Iraq. The only fighting is done by crazy terrorists who use suicide bombings, who are not even from Iraq. The President wants to increase troops there to take care of this problem, the left doesn't want this, and yet they still blame the President.
The recent offensive operations against the insurgents are working.

We are losing diplomatically.
The commande in chief needs to step up and be commander in chief and lead negotiations to bring about peace. In this case its about forcing the IRAQI president to get off his lazy butt, and put benchmarks with actual punishments for not meeting those predetermined benchmarks.
anyone find it funny that when it comes to what would be the penalty if IRAQ should not meet its benchmarks even after this surge -- that no republican ever wants to answer it.
All they say is lets give this latest plan a try.
What they really are saying is we dont know if this will work, but were willing to risk 1000 american soldiers lives every month to see if it will.
As far as winning the war, We showed what we could do to IRAQ already. We could destroy IRAQ easily.
but this is not about military might anymore.
REpublicans are missign the forrest for the trees here, and their failure to keep republican power and their ego is getting the best of them.
Instead of thinking about the safety of our troops and whats best for america NOW, all they focus on is how to make the democrats look bad for the next election.
JIM A -- thanks for saying that. I was waiting for someone else to bring up the declaration on such a vague enemy that only grants the president too braod powers of military execution

We are winning. We have thrown out a dictator and given the Iraqi people the right to vote. That's amazing for how long we have been there. It wouldn't really be a victory if we turned that country into glass.

The Left mistakenly apply the Geneva Convention to the "Sand Monkeys" we are fighting. The Geneva Convention was meant to apply to Official Government sponsored Soldiers in Uniforms which clearly identify them. Not cowards who disguise themselves as villagers like in Vietnam.
The Geneva Convention cannot apply to Giurilla Warfare because both sides do not honor it.
Terrorists understand one thing, Terror. So conventional fighting will never bring victory against such an animal.
Until we stomach this fact we are doomed.

Bush finally stepped up and is increasing the number of troops and pressuring Iraq to take responsibility. It is the democrats that now are turning on him. A surge will obliterate the enemy. I believe there are democrats that want to see us fail there.
