The black stone is inside. The link below has the details. Almost every religion has something that is sacred to them. This is no different than the other religions who have their sacred objects.

Nicholas H summed it up well. And I, as a Muslim will answer your questions.
1- There is nothing inside the Kabah, it is a hollow room.
2- As for the water you mentioned, it is considered PURE, not at all holy and people bring it back for their relatives
3- As for the black stone, no Muslim worships it; if they did, they would not be a Muslim. It is believed to have eben descended from Heaven and it changes colour with time, darkening with the sins of people [The Quran does not mention this, but Hadith does and no one has claimed the responsibility of maintaining Hadith as they were originally].
4- The kissing of the stone is just a ritual while making seven rounds around the Kabah; it has NO significance in the core Islamic beliefs and it is NOT considered to be representative of God or a diety in any other way.
It is an act (kissing it) which everyone performs while on visit to Mecca, thus acknowledging that it is from Heaven and showing their respect.
Cheers and God bless.

Makkah is the name of the place. It is the Birth place of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him).
The center of attraction in Makkah is the 'Kabah' which is also the House of ALLAH.
Now, Almighty GOD does NOT need a House. Kabah is the center towards which all muslims (whereever they are in the world) face when they pray. Thus kabah is a source for unifying the Muslims when they pray.
It is also known for Hajj (Pilgrimage). In the Hajj we circumembulate 7 times around it. SInce every circle has ONLY ONE centre. We testify that there is ONLY ONE GOD worthy of worship.
There is a Black stone embedded in the Kabah walls. This stone is believed to be sent from Paradise. NO muslim worships it. Infact bowing down in prayers in front of the Kabah does NOT mean that the Muslims worship the Kabah. The kabah is just the direction for prayers.
During the time of the Prophet, some companions used to give the call for prayer, standing on top of the kabah.
This kabah is inside the mosque (Masjid-al *****). There are lights inside it just like any mosque, temple, house etc. Then there is NO pond, and NO one dips inside any water.
What you are talking about is the Water of Zamzam, which is the purest, safest and best water on earth.

Your question is:What is inside Ka'aba, not in Makkah, which is the city; in the city there
is the Holy Masjid; in the centre of the very big Masjid(a million can pray together
inside, and two million outside)there is the Ka'aba---the Oldest House of Allah on Earth. It
is a rectangular room, covered all around with thick Silk/Gold curtains. There is one door
about 8 feet higher than ground level to go inside through a ladder. Usually remains closed.
Open couple of times in a year for brief time. The pilgrims go around it, invoking Allah,
and making supplications. There is never a dipping in any pond. There is a natural fountain,
thousands of years ancient, which you can not see. It is underground and the water is pumped
out, for drinking. This water is taken back by pilgrims as sacred souvenir all over the
world. The water never gets stale. This water is named ZamZam. The lamps are lit throughout
the vast campus of the Masjid. There is no green but a black stone fixed in one of the 4
corners of Ka'aba. That marks the beginning point of the seven circles around the House of
Allah. The tradition continues since the days of the Prophet Abraham. I may agree that there
are commonalities between Hindu and Muslim Faiths, regarding some rituals. Both the Faiths
were revealed through God's Holy Messengers. The Hindu brothers elevated all of them to the
exalted rank of Bhagwan. Hindus believe in One Unique Formless Parmatma- Parmishwar-
Brahman- like the Muslims believe in One Allah , Who has innumerable Name-Attributes. Thanks
for a good question...

Muḥammad was born in Mecca
Mecca was an oasis on the caravan trade route between India and Europe, and its powerful merchants feared that his religious reforms might lead to an economic slowdown.
Today Mecca is a wealthy and cosmopolitan city
The city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia hosts millions of Muslim pilgrims from throughout the world every year.
The Quran commands the worship of the Kaaba stone, the pilgrimage to Mecca, the fast during the month of Ramadhan, and it also teaches a fatalism regarding the present life.
All of this was part of the pagan religion of the Arabs in Muhammad’s day

At the center of Mecca is a stone that SUPPOSEDLY "was once white but has turned black by absorbing the sins of the people". People come from far and wide to pray and kiss/touch the stone. Many scientists theorize that it is simply a meteorite, however they are not allowed to test it to be sure.

In the name of Allah the most the most Gracious
Thank you for asking about the most important place in the
history of religion.Unfortunately what you posess is a complete wrong picture about this place and i am sorry that you recieved
this incorrect information from our Muslim brothers.
Now Mecca-Makkha or Bakka as mentioned in most scriptures
is a geographical location in Arabia now in the kingdom of Saudi
Arabia.Bakka is mentioned in the bible, important events relating
to the Prophet Muhammad victory in Makka is also found in the
The Atharvayeda- 20th, book, hym, 127 in the kuntap sukta
chapter verse 1-13 and and Arthavayeda book 20 hym no 21
verse no.9.The holy Quran of course gives one a better understanding of Makka, the ancient house and its importance
in Islam.
We have to go back to the Period of Prophet Abrahim, peace be on him ] who was ordered By Allah the almighty to take his
second wife Hajar and his first born son Ismail [ peace be on him ]and leave them at a specified place in the sandy deserts of Arabia Now known as Makka.Abrahim[ pbuh ]did as he was commanded as he had full faith in his Lord and even his wife
did not object as he was a prophet of God almighty and went back to his original home town. Now after a while, once they had
finished all the provisions that they posessed the mothers breast
ran dry and there was no food and water and none to be found in this desolate dessert for miles and miles around. The child began to cry of hunger and thirst and the desperate Mother began to Run between two mountains Safaa and Marwa[ present
to this day] looking out hopefully for any signs of life of or anyone
passing through who would help with food &water, After running
between these mountains several times she was exhausted and
returned to find her child struggling in the thoes of hunger and
thirst, and then an angel appered and dug a hole in the ground
and by the power of god almighty water gushed forth. Hajar then
quickly build a small enclosement around this water spring and
the water has flowed since thousands of years ago to this day.
and it will keep Flowing InshaAllah to the end of the world. this
water is contained in a well that is present in the Vicinity of the
ancient house in Makka. This is the water Called Abe Zam Zam
the Blessed water that the muslims Drink when they go for Hajj
and which they bring Home along with them ,There is no
ceremony where any one dips themselves in this pond for whatever reason.
Allah the almighty then commanded the prophet Abrahim[ peace be on him ] to go back to Makka and build there a House at a
chosen spot. Abrahim[ pbuh ] then went back to Makka and with
the help of his son Ismail began to build the structure as ordered
at a point that is exactly in the centre of the Earth,They would
use Stone blocks to stand on in order to elevate themselves to
reach a higer level and one of these blocks bearing the footprints of the Prophet Abrahim[ pbuh] is present in an ecclosure near the ancient house to this day.Allah the almighty promised the prophet Abrahim[ pbuh]That he would make this place a santuary for those who believe i him, place of Peace and
security and he would send a call throught the earth for people
from all conors of the earth to come and perform the sacred rites
of Hajj and Umraha.
This ancient House of God [ this does not mean that God , glory be to him lives there]is called the Ka'ba and it is a Kibla for the
muslims[ meaning it is a direction, where every Muslim faces
from any corner of the world during his prayers and we do not
worship it as such ]Over the years due to a great flood and other
conditions the ancient house was damaged and was again
rebuilt by the Prophet Muhammad[ peace be on him ]Since then it was also renovated many times to what it is today.
Before the comming of the Prophet Muhammad[peace be on him ] Arabia was predominant with ignorance, tribes, wars and
Idol worship. the Ka'ba was full of Idols of different Gods more
then 300 hundred of them and the people used to perform the
rituals Naked. But when the prophet[ peace be on him] entered
Makka he removed all the idols from inside the Ka'ba and
destroyed them.To date is like an empty chamber inside , with
some pillars holding it and some lights for visibility in order for
cleaning ect.
There is no green stone what is there as a corner stone is
Called a Black stone which is believed to be a piece of rock
from Jannat..It has no real significance in Islam. Muslims while
performing thecorrect Rites of Hajj and Umrah circumambulate
round the Ka'ba seven times and while doing so may touch or
point at it as a volountry Action without believing that it has any
special powers to benifit or harm in any way.Muslims do not
worship The Ka'ba or the Black stone, we Only worship Allah
the almighty the one True god.Read the english version of the
Quran as there is some commentary and the story of the ancient
house as narrated by the our prophet Muhammad[peace and
blessings be on him ]Sura Al Baqarah,2-224-132, Sura al Ibrahim -14;37.
