So I am a girl and i shaved my upper lip because i thought it looked bad and my mom didn't know and now it looks worse. My mom has bleached it for me a few times but she just doesn't understand how hard it is for me cuz i feel like every1 notices it. Like when I look in the mirror the first thing i see is my hairy upper lip and i hate it. I hate how nervous i get whenever anyone brings up anything about moustaches or shaving or waxing or anything because im scared someone will say something about it. And even if they don't say anything about it i still feel like they notice it. I feel like im so UGLY. I once brought up the idea of laser and my mom didnt think it was such a great idea. Help me!

Don't stress about this and shaving once will not cause any bad results.
I am a Beauty Therapist and my clients who have their lip waxed range in ages from 9 years old to about 90 years old.
I have been having my upper lip waxed for 10 years, since I was 11, and it is still one of the most popular waxes that we perform at the salon. Ask your mum to take you to a salon for your first wax. After this purchase a small microwavable tub of HOT WAX- not strip wax. Wax your upper lip every two weeks or whenever hair appears.
Usually clients have it waxed once every 4 weeks but I do my own at home once every 2 weeks- it hurts less then and you will reduce the hair growth a lot quicker.

** Please do not stress about this, so many people have it waxed just not many people talk about it.

I just wanted to point out that the below statement is not proven:
Long-term use of waxing also causes bad wrinkles

When we wax we hold the skin taut but do not stretch it- I have many many clients who have been waxing for 10, 20, 30, 40 years and do not have any wrinkles caused from waxing.
Wrinkles arw formed from the breakdown of collagen and elastin and form in the pattern of your expressions eg: laughing, squinting, frowning, NOT from waxing or threading.

If you simply trim the hair it will feel coarse because of the hair being cut half off- this will draw attention to the hair.

Wax, tweeze or bleach your upper lip hair.
And I stress please do not follow the answer below mine:
DO NOT shave it!!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this at your age. It is ok to worry about how this looks, and it's not going to get any better as you get older. Why didn't your mom think laser was a good idea? You don't give us much information to go on here. But, try waxing your upper lip. You'll have to do it every week, and it hurts, but the more you do it, the less it will hurt. Laser is pretty expensive, and since you must be pretty dark to be dealing with this at your age, this is going to be an issue for you for a long time. Waxing is a less expensive way to go. If you don't know how to wax, go to a salon first, it should cost you around $10.00, watch what the waxer does, ask questions, so you can do this on your own. Good luck

Hey girl, i have this same problem. What i do is use this special cream, sort of like nair, but for you face. And you just put it on and leave it on for 8 minutes and scrub the cream off and it takes the hair right off. The cream is called AVON skin-so-soft facial hair removal cream. And plus its avon so you know it's good. Trust me, its so easy. A couple of years ago i became very self concience about this and so i tried to wax it with this home waxing kit i got. Bad news, I did it wrong and got this huge rash and made in 10x worse. Then i got this cream and it's so much easier that laser or waxing, or anything else you might want- and its cheap!. Just remember, normally when you talk to people you look into their eyes, and it may seem like all you see is this hair. But really when people are talking to you they probally wont even notice it!
Good luck!

Shaving it once won't do much damage but don't shave it again. I find using facial hair removal cream for sensitive skin works best. Shaving makes the hair grow back faster and thicker and waxing can cause scarring. So find a hair removal cream FOR THE FACE to use instead.

First of all, don't panic.

Secondly, even your mother realises you've a real problem or she wouldn't have helped you bleach it.

There's nothing to worry about -- it's just that your moustache has started growing in earnest. And yes, many women do have moustache growth in the same way as men do.

Most guys are actually OK about women with a moustache, but if yours is growing heavily at 12 you'd no doubt prefer to do something about it.

In spite of what many people will tell you, when you've got serioius moustache growth, there isn't a simple answer.

Facial (and also body) hair on women comes about in the same way as on men because of

1) your body being sensitized, before you were even born, to testosterone -- doesn't happen to all girls, but does to many

2) your body producing high levels of testosterone

The growth rate and coarseness of the hair depends on just how much testosterone is circulating in your bloodstream.

Steer clear of bleaching -- when someone sees you against the light you'll look as if you have a glowing moustache and/or beard.

As far as removing it is concerned it's worth remembering that

* Waxing, plucking, threading, epilating all pull the hair out by the roots and where the growth is hormonally-driven can actually stimulate a dormant follicle into producing more hair quicker. They also distort the root if done repeatedly, leading to hair growing at strange angles. And you've got to let the hair grow to quite a length before you can repeat the exercise. It can also damage the skin and discolor it. Long-term use of waxing also causes bad wrinkles.

* Chemical depilatories strong enough to remove the hair are very likely to burn the skin, cause swelling and cause long-term discoloration of the skin.

* Laser is also liable to cause burning and discoloration and in any case only works effectively on a dark hair/light skin combinantion.

* Electrolysis is very liable to cause scarring and discoloration of the skin.

Which, like it or not, leaves shaving which does not damage the skin. Best done with a men's-style electric razor, the best of which, for women, are probably those from the men's range of Norelco razors (Philishave outside the US). Most women who try a men's Norelco wonder why nobody ever told them about it before.

So there's the simple answer. Get a men's-type Norelco. But make sure before using it for the first time that your moustache is trimmed really close ot the skin. Norelcos are for hair less than 1/16" long.

Get laser hair removal. It may cost about $200, but that's a lot better than spending the rest of your life with a mustache. Wax it if you can't afford laser hair removal. Bleaching looks odd. I think bleaching is worse than shaving. You could also buy an epilator. Braun epilators work really good.

sally hanson brand makes these amazing strips. theyre clear & 2 are stuck together (in different sizes depending on where you want them). you put it in your hand (before pealing apart) & rubs them for about 10 seconds to mildly warm them with the heat fo your hands & then you stick a strip on, push it down, & rip it off. its very fast & doesnt hurt much. it just feels warm afterward. & if stickiness is still there, they come with a little bottle of liquid that you rub on with your fingers to remove stickiness & ease the warmness. try it out! i use them at random times & theyre inexpensive too! i got mine at walgreens & i know safeway or albertsons would probably carry them as well. good luck hun!
