My parents are in their 50s and still have not written their wills. I need to help them with this, but I have NO idea what is involved. Where should I start? Will we need to hire a lawyer? Is there any way we can do it cheaply or for free?

Thank you! :)

When the time comes for you to write a will. You will need to go see a lawyer, this will determine what assets you have that can be placed into you will. There is a cost usally not more than a couple hundred, and then of course you would have to get it legally notarized, but they can usally do that there.
There are also web sites that you can use to assist you in this that are probably cheaper, like "www.partingwishes.com"

You could consult a lawyer, but you can also go on line and obtain forms for a "Will" which would be filled in as to what your parents require and then witnessed by two individuals and a notary and the website will also give directions and examples. Please do not sit on making a "Will", it is very important to have one.
