We hear it everywhere now a days, child abuse-pedophiles! I have a nine month old baby- she's not even crawling yet but everyday I worry myself to death. How can I protect her, will someone hurt her, who to trust...? Do any other moms feel this way? What to do...

You can't change other people, but you can teach her to be confident, strong, and how to take care of herself. She may suffer hurts of many kinds in life, hopefully they aren't that bad but worrying about her being touched by some stranger will just make you both crazy. She's still a baby, don't let her out of your sight. As she gets older, teach her how to talk to people, how to trust her feelings about strangers. Teach her not to talk to strangers about her body, or her address. She will have to learn to deal with strangers, your husband was once a stranger, was he not? Relax and focus on teaching her to be a good adult and to take care of herself.

There are still millions of good people in this country who would never hurt a child. You just need to be careful about who you allow your children to associate with and find out backgrounds on any new friends, acquaintances, etc. If you have a bad feeling about someone there is usually a good reason, trust your gut instinct. Don't unnecessarily shelter your child from the good people in this world, just be careful and know the people who have access to your child.

I think everyone who loves their children is concerned about stuff like that. Do reasearch in your community find out where the offenders live and how close they are to you.Best of all never leave your child unattended even for just a minute. It only takes a split second. Make sure as your child grows older you educate her about the dangers of strangers. Education is power and its best to be educated than to be a victim.
