San Juan is not the only area in Puerto Rico....being a small island regionalisms are not strongly marked.
Puerto ricans are in general very nice people that are willing to give you a hand whenever you need it. 60% of the population like in poverty income levels and the remaining 40% are mst middle class with a 10% in the higher income. There is a large underground market in PR, so the # here may not show the reality of the island.
The Cost of Living in PR is high, but in comparison to California, NJ, NY and other states, it is lower. The average housing cost is around $200K.
If you compare the living style in PR versus the states, we have to define it better. The life in PR is slow paced, living the past and present, highly faithful and we live sometimes above the limits. In general, a strong family value island, but have a minority that is an exception.
The Puerto Rican culture is unique - We like to party, hear music, eat (we have an overweight problem) and enjoy any activity that will take us off of our daily routine.
How do we act? This is a tricky question....we act like puerto ricans...the same way a New Yorker acts as a New Yorker.
My recommendation to you is to pass a season in PR and you will take a good grasp of what we are....I know you will like it so much that you will want to stay.

Sanjuaneros = Preps. If that's what you mean. The life in San Juan is fast, busy but fun and expensive, very Prep like but you still can be yourself!
