Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power" Luke 9:27

That was over 2000 years ago, all of his listeners are now dead. God hasn't come back... Jesus lied?

This is a classic.

All the answers I have ever heard of this are some hackneyed, he meant at the 2nd coming, or some sort of metaphorical death. But essentially a bunch of BS trying to justify some way he didn't lie.

Keep reading and you will see what Peter, John, and James saw, and heard. Also the disciples and others saw the resurrected Jesus. He was not talking about the literal Kingdom on Earth that is to come. When he returns to set up his kingdom, every eye shall see it, not just a few. Also no believer will taste death. Oh death where is thy sting? Oh grave where is thy victory? We simply transform from mortality to immortality.Look for another error. How about finding the verse that says if you live a good life and try your best to be honest and follow the ten commandments, you can get into heaven.

Actually, the Kingdom of God came in Acts 2 with the establishment of the church - his Kingdom on earth, that is. It did come with power, as you can read in the beginning of Acts 2... and most were still alive, although Judas was not at that point.

Read The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels and you will know. Jesus also said, "the Kingdom of God is spread out upon the Earth and people do not see it".

He is talking about time in general - NOT referring to the time He lived or a certain year. He's talking about people on earth in general. When Jesus walked the earth, He referred to people as 'many' or 'some' and the part of the verse that says 'standing here' means 'some people' alive on earth' will not see death, meaning the rapture. He is not referring to any particular people of His time, but people that live on earth during the course of time. Also, Christ is perfect and without sin. He is holy and cannot sin, so He did not lie.

Actually the reason why that was written in that manner was so the writers could cash in on the sequel. I think they had some boring name like Bible II. They just wanted to generate excitement.

Orwell's 1984 was off the mark. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey also wasn't correct.

The writers of the Bible just didn't think anyone would take it literally.

There is reference to in the old testament that G-d simply ascended at least two followers that I know of to his realm without actually dying. I'm not a christian, but from what I know, it would be totally out of character for Jesus to lie. Perhaps were losing something in the translation.

he didn't lie, and a for instance there is no record of John's death.
and there were many people who were listening, and taking what he said to heart...this does not mean that they became renown or well known, infact the opposite would be true for a true deciple of Christ, he/she would strive to become not noticed and known for anything in particular, one of such longevity would know how to be simply oridinary, so oridinary no one would notice them...
most of us do die...but i think there may well be some who have not passed, yet.
now i'll say he was also speaking metaphorically, and we don't die to this world to be born again as christians untill we see Him...but the meaning of that is to be discovered in the journey, it is not something that can be told one person to the next.

...Good question. I have no idea.

My opinion? The Bible was written from stories passed down by word of mouth. If Jesus existed, those probably weren't his exact words. We have no way of knowing exactly what he said.

Or maybe a couple of those listeners are still hiding out in caves, waiting for God. Who knows?
