after my hair dries from swimming or anything it's frizzy and thick and hard to deal with. So I always straighten it. My mom says it's not good because then I'm drying it out even more. What should I do? I'm already using a hydration shampoo and conditioner, and I went and got my hair thinned with the thinning shears. Any ideas?

your mom is right straightening is vary harmfull for the hair, try avoiding it for some time. if you have the cash go to your salon and get a deep conditioning treatment done once a month, believe me it works. if not when your hair is towel dried(pat dried not rubbed)apply leave in conditioner on the hair, concentrating on the ends. mix a little bit of hair gel and serum together and run through your hair, tie your hair up in a bun or wrap an old T-shirt around it and go about your work for sometime. after you feel your hair is dried you can let your hair down and run some hair wax on it( only if it's still frezzy) other wise you can just go about your business.
p.s- when your conditioning your hair apply it run a wide tooth comb through it to spread the conditioner and leave it on for 10 minitues. remember to use a really good professional conditioner, they really do make a difference.

Before you straighten your hair you should always use a serum to protect it. I use CHI or Bio Silk serums when I straighten mine, I also use a CHI iron. At the very least use a flat iron that has ceramic plates - cheaper irons will cause slightly more damage than the pricier ones - the higher the price the better the plates.
The more you straighten it, the more dried out it gets, and you need to protect it. There are others out there, and many swear by Frizz-Ease and similar products found outside of salons (Wal-Mart and drug stores). As long as you are using something it's better than nothing at all. I truly hope you find something that you adore. Take care!
