The BEST french toast recipe. enjoy.
1 loaf Texas toast thick bread, Sliced (1 lb.)
1 dozen eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons cinnamon, ground (more if needed)
butter or shortening, to grease skillet
Whisk the eggs till frothy.
Add remaining ingredients, and mix well.
Over medium heat, lightly grease skillet with shortening (butter will burn very quickly, so exercise caution if using butter). I use a paper towel, so I can use it repeatedly, with every 2 or 3 pans of French toast. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, on both sides.
Do this quickly, so as not to completely soak the bread.
Cook in skillet over med/med-high heat for approx 5 min per side. You may need to flip more than once to get th e desired golden-brown color.
Serve with butter and powdered sugar, or preserves (my favorite) or syrup.
AND for something even sweeter...Chocolate French Toast(A personal favorite)
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons hershey's cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
8-10 pieces thickly sliced bread
powdered sugar (optional)
maple syrup (optional)
Beat eggs, milk, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, salt and cinnamon, if desired, in large bowl until smooth.
Heat griddle or skillet over medium-low heat. Grease griddle with margarine, if necessary (or spray with non-stick cooking spray).
Dip bread in egg mixture. Place on griddle. Cook about 2 to 4 minutes on each side.
Serve immediately with powdered sugar or maple syrup, if desired.

Personally I like using Challah bread, which is an eggy bread to start out with. If you get it sliced have it sliced in thick slices, or slice it into thick slices yourself. IN a bowl make a mixture of egg, milk (while milk is best), and you can add a little oil/butter if you want. Whip up the egg mixture, preferable with a wisk, until it is a bit frothy, and then dunk the pieces of bread/challah into the eggy mix, making sure that you soak through both sides. Then, have a flat frying pan, if you have one, or use a the largest frying pan you have, and use butter or some form of oil (do not use margarine, but you can use Pam) and put the bread onto the frying pan and fry it on each side until it is a glorious brown. Ok, so that's the hard part, how do you get it correct. I would do each side for about a little over a minute, then flip, then flip again, and keep doing until it is crisp and done all the way through.''
Now, if you want to make something wonderful you can take your french toast and make stuffed french toast, which is where, when you have finished making the french toast, you keep the pieces warm in the oven, and take out pieces for the bottom, smear them with cream cheese and put on some jelly and fresh fruit, then put on the top, cut in half diagionally, put in the micowave or oven, and heat up and you have Stuffed French Toast. Something I love, but rarely eat, due to those awful calories. But a girl can dream

I take 3 eggs and 3/4 c milk and whisk them until light and frothy. Some people like to add a bit of cinammon but I really like a teaspoon of vanilla. The bread has to be bakery style bread not the super soft grocery store kind. If the bread is day old so much the better. dip the bread in the egg mix and place on medium hot pan. I use a spray oil to prevent sticking. turn when golden brown. Hope this helps.

In a shallow dish, add 2 eggs, about 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon and whisk until well blended. Dip slices of bread into the mixture on both sides and immediately fry in a skillet with a little hot oil/butter.

...first...I use Pepperidge Farms "swirl" bread... cinnimon, Vinella swirt etc... don't use white...ugh... get creative... crack some eggs... about (1) egg per slice.. but... smash all the eggs in a bowl... whip'um up and put some brown sugar in the mix, just a little... Ok... in a flat pan... well lubed... take your "special" bread... dip it in the egg mix... both sides... pick it up, let it drip a second or two now onto the grill... repete the process quickly with your "other" slices... about (3) is a good serving for (1) hungrey breakfast person... with your spatula, "look" at the cooked side... it should be a golden brown... flip over and do the same... cook'um up... serve'um hot... have your syrup "at the ready"... warmed up in a pot... butter, coffee...Ummmm
