hi there. sorry i was sort of rude before but i was just so shocked that u could adopt a 4 week old pup. but in this situation it is very good of u. the first thing i would ask urself is if u know how the mum died? if it died of a genetic disease then pls take ur pup 2 the vet to be throughly checked out. u should do this anyway. the vet can aslo provide u with a substitute for the mothers milk, though the pup may not need it anymore. u will get varied opinions on this site with is all well and good, but this is really a question for the vet. the vet will check out ur pup and recommend the best solution 2 ur problem. the reason we cant help u with this prob. is because we would need to see the pup in the flesh to give u an accurate answer. the pup could have gone through many difficulties which will affect the way it eats. ur vet will really need 2 help u with this one.
dont worry, it wont die if u get the right help- but pls make sure u do =)

If the puppy is only 1 month or less, she has to have a puppy milk supplement.(You can get it at wal-mart,petco, your vet etc...) Eslibilac is a good one. DO NOT give cows milk. It will upset her system & she'll get dehydrated from diarrhea. So puppy milk, keep her warm, and do not let her dig around in the dirt. The parvo virus lives there & she is very suseptable. You might even let her go inside on newspaper right now because she's not getting any antibodies from her other's milk. You'll need to feed every couple of hours, all through the night, or the puppies blood sugar will drop. Basically, just do what a mother dog would do. To keep her warm, you can fill a plastic bag full of warm water and lay her on it, or a little warmer & put it underneath a towel & put her on top of that.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. I rescued one of my dogs from being dumped at the side of the road, luckily he was about 7 weeks old.
A four-week old puppy really needs a puppy milk replacer, Esbilac is one example as mentioned above. Follow instructions on the can. Get bottles and nipples while you are at the store.
It will take some trial and error and plenty of patience to encourage the puppy to nurse from the bottle. She'll be a little confused at first but should figure it out. An alternative is tube feeding, but you would need to visit a veterinarian to learn more about that. (Visit a vet anyway to get this pup checked out and get more specific help about how to care for her).
It is very important to keep this little girl warm. Keep her in a warm room away from drafty doors or windows, and use either a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel, or a heating pad on LOW only, also covered in a towel. (Be very careful with heating pads, as they can get much too hot in spots.)
If she is peeing and pooping on her own, wonderful. If not, you can take a soft cloth or a cottonball and moisten it with warm water. Then wipe her bottom very gently, especially after she eats. This will encourage her to potty.
Please take her to a local vet soon to learn more.
Good luck with your new baby. I am glad you rescued her and I truly hope all turns out well.

Here is NOT where you need to getting the advice you are looking for. Take the pup to the vet to have is thoroughly examined to be sure it is healthy & get some puppy milk replacement formula. DO NOT give the pup cows milk!!! Once the pup was in your possession your first stop should have been the vets office. The vet can answer ALL of your questions & provide the replacement milk formula the pup desperately needs...

You should get him to the vet ASAP. You can also try giving him puppy formula. If you have a wal-mart around where you live the should have some. Also try not to leave the puppy alone much because he probably very weak and you wouldn't want him to get hurt. Please take this advise serious i love animals and would hate to hear about your pupp dieing.
Goodluck!

Take the puppy to a vet to get detailed instructions for how to care for him. He's much too young to be on his own, so it's critical that you learn how to feed and otherwise care for him from a trained vet. Make sure to keep him warm and cozy on the way to the vet (and at all times).

You need to have "hands on" lessons on puppy care.
Go to a vet or shelter and have someone show you what to do and how to do it.
Really, you need help.
Stop by Petsmart and get a can of puppy milk (never feed cow's milk, they get diarrhea) and a bottle kit. Get the one that comes with cleaning brushes and extra nipples.
Good luck
