could it be gallbladder? SEVERE pain - middle chest area, right below throat. have had ekg's done etc - NOT my heart....have taken prilosec, antacids - DOES not work - went to dr. and he said possibly gallbladder..has anyone else had this? pain is so bad its' starting to be scary, darveset isn't even killing the pain! dr. assures me everything is "ok"! right in the middle - pressure, tightness...???

While I will not confirm or deny what your doctor has told you. MOST times pain is actually from muscles that have knots called trigger points in them which makes them tight causing them to put pressure on nerves and other things. To find out more (with out me communicating) read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

Well the gallbladder isn't below the throat, but I've never had gallstones, so maybe the pain travels? Other than GERD, I'm not sure what it could be.

GB is below the rib cage and its' reflected pain can go to back side. In your case it isn't there, hence it isn't GB.
I SUSPECT LUNG DISORDER. There are points on sternum which become painful with lung diseases.
It can be problem related to sternum itself.
Give some heat treatment and observe whether you relax, if so it muscular problem due to coldness.
