I used to smoke and drink beer daily, but I no longer do and never will again, but I still don't buy into this theory cigs are more addictive than street drugs. Anyone care to explain that?

I am smoke free for about 18 months now. I went through Nicotine Anonymous, In their program they do say cigarettes are more addictive than any drug. Smoking is the hardest to give up. I tried for about 25 years before I was successful.

I regret to say that I have experienced all of the above in my teens and early twenties. Thankfully I got a slap in the face and stopped the illegal drugs but still drank and smoked cigs. They were my two bad things I allowed myself. I quit drinking when my uncle was diagnosed with some sort of liver failure(I forget the proper name). But the cigarette hung with me. It was there every morning with my coffee, after my meals and when I took a break at work. There was nothing as good as that cigarette behind the building on a bad day. I couldn't let it go. I quit a few months ago when my best friend's mother was diagnosed with advanced emphazema and had to start wearing an oxygen mask 24/7. It was the absolute hardest thing I have ever done in my life. The withdrawal was horrible. I had headaches and I ate all the time. What I missed most was the oral fixation. The habit of having a cigarette with my coffee, on a break, or after a meal. After a couple of weeks it wasn't that bad though. Now, 14 weeks later, I'm still smoke free and couldn't be more estatic about it! Cigarettes are very addicting, more addicting that I thought before I quit. It's the best thing I could've done for myself and my family, though.

I don't know about being more addictive, but cigarettes are more accessible, and I think that adds to the difficulty in quitting...cigarettes are legal and they're sold everywhere.

I smoked from 14 to 28. I quit for 8 years and one night while out with my friends having a few drinks, I took a puff of my friend's cigarette and within a week I was back to a pack a day. Before that night at the bar, I used to have nightmares about smoking, but all it took was that one time and BANG. I'm still smoking 10 years later.

Congratulations on quitting. Personally, I do believe that it's possible. I don't have any scientific proof but, I have heard that cigarettes are just as addictive as heroine. I haven't tried heroine, so I can't say for certain. Supposedly, the cigarette manufacturers add chemicals to cigarettes to make them more addictive than nicotine alone would be.

The first answerer kind of makes my point. He's a smoker (addicted to cigarettes). He's tried street drugs, but never got addicted to them. It would stand to reason that the cigarettes were more addictive than the street drugs. (It could be the legal versus illegal factor, though I guess.)

Well I unfortunately am a smoker. The person doing illicit drugs only harms themselves.I'm assuming they don't commit a felony to feed thier habit.
The smoker actually does harm to him/herself.So also to the people around them.Everyone has the right to work in a smoke free envirionment, and that includes bar staff, ushers, waiters or anyone else serving the general public
Sorry I dont know if hard drugs are more addictive than nicotine.Only the users could determine this

YES THEY ARE!!!!!
at least for me they are.i used to be addicted in both c & c and many more chemical drugs for years.I managed after lot of work to quit them and without the help of an expert. It wasn't easy it wasn't hard.
I've been trying for a lot of time to quit smoking but i can't.There is a very logical explanation for this. You can smoke without having any psychological effects,so you can do it in every difficult situation you might find in front of you, without considering that this might cause any trouble in your job or social life.
It is very easy to go and buy a pocket of cigarettes and less less expensive than anything else. And above all it is legal!!!!!!!!!Just like alcohol is.
I hope i will find the courage to quit smoking too.

I smoke, very addicted. I haven't tried any street drugs except for mary j. The anti-smoking thing is getting out of control though. Dr.s ask if I smoke every time I go to the clinic. People look at you like your a terrible parent because you smoke. There is getting to be way to much government control and manipulating people into believing that smoking causes every illness in the world.
