I know he is a Domestic Short hair, but what sort of breed? His tail closely resembles that of a raccoon.

Your cat is an American Short hair, of the tabby pattern. These cats come in a wide variety of colours and patterns including the target sided "classic tabby" as well as the "tiger striped tabby."

Tabby is not a breed as much as it is a pattern. Most all Tabby's have an "M" right between and above their eyes. Even black Tabby's have these patterns of stripes.

Your cat could be any breed because you didn't give a good description of he/she. You need to describe your cat a little better or take he/she to the vet, they will let you know.

He is cute. Notice that he has a M marking on his forehead above the eyes...This mean he is a tabby cat. I have two of them.
