It's hard to say if bathing helps spread the virus to other spots on the body or not- given that chicken pox break out in sucessive crops, it's impossible to say if one pox was there from the previous bath or would have just been part of the new crop. However, not bathing can leave the person feeling extremely itchy, and a nice cool bath in something like Aveeno or baking soda will help soothe the itchies. Scratching the pox will break them, spread the virus under the fingernails, and from there to new spots of skin. So bathing or not bathing really isn't a significant factor in preventing new pox spots breaking. There are going to be between 3-5 crops of pox, no matter what you do. The trick is to avoid breaking them open, and getting them dried up as soon as possible. Pox that break from scratching tend to scar, those that dry intact don't, which is why you aim to limit the itch any way you can. Are we talking adult with the chicken pox here or a child? Adults usually suffer much more than kids. Oh, and if you happen to get the pox in a private spot, going to the bathroom can BURN like fire. Going in a warm tub of baking soda water can really be a blessing in this event. You don't even want to know all the places you can get pox, but some of them can be downright miserable- and you will be willing to risk a few extra pox spots in exchange for some relief.

Varicella virus can be spread in that manner to another. If that is the question.? Chicken Pox is very contagious. In reference to the above answer, I don't know that bathing will improve the status, only that the it cannot be cured and relieving inflammation is probably your best bet for any type of relief. Baking soda perhaps.
