I tried to learn Spanish in high school. It was determined I had no aptitude for language. That includes computer programming. My high school teacher told me that my only hope of learning a language was through total immersion. Since I haven't moved to Mexico or Spain I guess I am destined to speak only English.
If you can't commit to a 24/7 situation where all you speak is Spanish I suppose one method is about as good as any other.
Good Luck, I hope you more success than I had.

Start reading in Spanish.
Buy a good Spanish/English dictionary and read everything you can get your hands on in Spanish. At first, you'll have to look everything up, but it's the quickest way to improve you vocabulary.
Then keep using your takes in the car to teach you proper pronunciation.
This is what I'm currently doing to learn Spanish and it's working quite well.

Actually to achieve the optimal experience, you would have to go where Spanish is spoken. For me, it was Spain../Es una maravilla! Wonderful, historical, intriguing! You know you have arrived when you can make a joke in Spanish and have people laugh with you.

Live in a Spanish-speaking country for one year. Or, do what I did and marry a Mexican who is also a Spanish teacher.
