The next time he hits you hit him back harder. I'm not saying to be abusive, just show the kid that there are natural consequences for his actions. You have obviously not done too well at teaching him this lesson. If I just randomly hit someone on the street I'm likely to get my butt kicked. Why should he be any different? Besides, if you don't teach him this lesson while he's small he will RULE you when he gets bigger.

Sounds like a different problem than ADHD. That is not a cause of violence. You may have overcompensated for your child's problem by trying to be very understanding and created this situation of disrespect.

I am not trying to make you feel bad, I am struggling with a bit similar situation. The problem is that the current culture suggests that you should be able to make your kids into perfect little citizens with time outs and understanding, the truth is, it's not that simple. Kids are not the simple gentle little creatures the PC society wants us to think. sometimes it takes tough measures to get their attention. I don't claim to have any great answers for you except RESEARCH and find out all you can in books, etc. and really look at yourself and what you can do differently. Trust your gut and do what is best for your child.

Hitting you is not a good sign and things needs to be redirected to what is really going on. All my best to you!!

ADHD? How do you know? Have you taken him to the doctor. Then I assume they are treating him, right? ADHD does not cause the child to become abusive. He's got other issues if he's hitting you. Get him back to the doctor.

Have him screened for Bipolar Disorder which is common with ADHD kids. Get him in therapy before he hurts you, others or himself. Best of luck to you.
