Why does everyone think Mozilla is better than IE7?

I had a problem with IE7 and checked it out on here. So everyone's saying Mozilla is so much better, so I downloaded it. I don't see any advantage to it. Why is it supposed to be better?

Firefox is in most respects simply a better piece of software. It is faster and more stable than IE. Most important, by all accounts it has far fewer known security problems, holes and exploits than IE, such as no activex controls, no third party downloads, no BHO's, etc, etc. Firefox makes it very dificult to create popups by nature, and has quite a few optional add-onns that improve it's already impressive security resume.

In my opinion, the layout of the menus and control system is much more user friendly and less complicated. These things more than make up for the slight lack of obscure "creature-comforts" that IE has. Most of these features you do not know about, you will never use, and a few may in fact be more likely to be exploited by viruses or spyware

In fact, IE7 seems to have "cloned" much of it's layout, interface, and some of it's features directly from firefox......for example, "tabbed" browsing, and one page browsing history controls, which firefox still does better. firefox also has a few really slick add and script blocking add-onns, which I also highly recommend.

Firefox has less than 1/100'th the number of lines of computer code, and it still works better...

Lastly, Firefox is published by the Free Software Foundation, which by definition is interested in advancing the state of the art, not in making profits. Most of the work developing and testing Firefox was done pro bono, without pay, so there is little conflict of interest.

P.S; the spell checker on this site seems to work much better with Firefox.....

Internally Mozilla is a lot more secure [security-wise] than IE7. Also, some argue that Mozilla's Firefox is a lot more attractive than IE7. They both have tabs, but look at how huge the tab bar is in IE7 when compared to the smaller more efficient bar in Firefox.

Firefox blows away Internet Explorer when it comes to security.

Brian Krebs at the Washington Post's Security Fix blog wanted to put together some statistics on how long it took major software providers to fix vulnerabilities last year. He started with Microsoft, and found that Internet Explorer was vulnerable to critical flaws for a total of 284 days. That's more than 9 months.

In fact, there were at least 98 days when Microsoft had not issued a fix even though criminals were actively exploiting some of those flaws to grab personal data from Internet Explorer users.

Krebs says he ran his data by Microsoft before posting it on the blog, and that aside from some minor issues, the company didn't bring up anything that would change the overall finding.

By comparison, Firefox was only vulnerable to a serious security threat for one 9 day period last year. What's interesting is that for 2006, Opera 8 and Opera 9 didn't suffer from a single extremely critical vulnerability as classified by Secunia (although both did suffer a single highly critical vulnerability).

It's safer, resistant to spyware, supports a massive number of extensions to allow for unique features, not to mention a bit faster IMHO. Oh yeah, have you customized yours yet? That's another plus. I assume you are still using it. Now, shut down Mozilla, and open IE....taps finger on desk...after you use Firefox for a while the differences between the two will be more than obvious.

IE7 doesn't do things like FTP very well, and it supports direct install by Microsoft so they can insall pretty much anything they want. The error messages don't tell you much either and for things like browsing a secure site, if the SSL certificate has just expired or you type domain.com instead of www.domain.com it won't let you see the page.

the main reason i use firefox is because it has better security.
1 - IE has a thing called activex which is a program that runs in your browser. This program can do just about anything that any other program on your computer can do; delete files, transmit information about your browsing habits.

2 - IE allows "drive-by-downloads" which are programs that install themselves with little or no user interaction.

3 - IE makes it easy to pop up messages that make you think you have a system error, and encourage you to fix it by downloading a spyware-laden program.

4 - IE has BHOs (browser helper objects) which are toolbars and other annoyances that can track your browsing and other nasty things like re-route your google searches to another site.

5 - The main reason that IE is targetted by virus and spyware developers is return on investment. IE still has the highest share of windows browsers, so malware authors attack them and guarantee a wider spread. Most businesses use IE, like the government.

Because it is. Mozilla may not appear any better some year, but you can
download a whole bunch of attachments like HTML toolbars and McAffe site advisor.
It is so better (in your face, IE)

becuase it is. if you noticed, ie7 copied Mozilla. Firefox is more secure and more importantly... less Microsoft! download it if you haven't already. its also a lot more customizable

Because the HATE Microsoft so much they will mislead their answers to try to stop Microsofts stronghold on the industry. I don't agree with them...I just use what is best

Firefox is the best in my opinion. Safer, faster, able to install addons, themes, and is more compatible with web standards than IE is.
