Usually, the famous ones either have parents who are living out some unfulfilled dream of theirs and they push their kids into show business.
I have a close friend who did that with her son and she actually had his agent come to my home to try to talk me into letting him rep. my youngest son. I declined. My son is too precious to me to offer him up to a business where people have no problem telling an 11 yr. old boy that he's moving into his "ugly stage" and would have a hard time getting another commercial. (that actually happened to my friend's son)
The child I know banked $38,000 from his commercials and two movies that was supposed to be used for college. His parents had to spend it on just getting him through high school after the public school system tossed him out permenantly for fighting and drug use. He has a horrible temper and is both a diva and an insecure child. Only a kid who's been shoved into the cruelty of show business would have such a split personality.
My oldest son was 14 when he decided he would do stand up. He started writing "bits" at that age and performed at school functions. When he was 16, he got a job and used his money to take a bus an hour each way into the city to play at open mics. At 18, he was accepted into the only comedy college program that exists and, after a year where he excelled, his teachers recommended he concentrate on performing. He's living in the city, performing about 6 nights a week for almost no money and he's as happy as it's possible to be. He's not looking to be famous... just wants to do what he loves and we're very proud of him. :)
If a child has a need to perform, they'll find a way to do it. They'll join groups (or create them like my son did) and they'll reach for it themselves. You can tell when it's the parent's dream when they're taking time off to drive their kid to auditions and making them learn lines.
All the world's 8 yr. olds should be spending their time playing and learning. Fame should be left to those who reach for it themselves.

Famous for WHAT?
In order to be celebrated, you have to offer something in exchange. And, most of us have nothing to offer.
