No, it would not be a good idea at all. Lowering the body temperature too rapidly can cause a whole other set of problems. Fever is the normal response to an infection of some sort, and it would be a lot more helpful if you actually knew what your temperature was. The body cells are quite capable of functioning in the higher temperature, while bacteria and virus can't. They can't reproduce, they go into a non-active state which makes it easier for your immune system to whip butt. If you are otherwise healthy, and are able to hold fluids down, you would be better served by taking 2 Tylenol, drinking loads of fluids of your choice(not including alcohol) and staying exactly where you are. So long as you are going to the bathroom every 2-3 hours, and are able to hold fluids, you will do just fine. It would be more helplful if you actually knew your temperature, although for most adults, anything over 100 feels much worse than it usually is. Adults are usually dying at around 102, and can handle temps as high as 104 without much trouble. At that point, it would need to be lowered, at least to nearer 100, and you would benefit from proper medical attention. In the meantime, stay bundled, drink and stay put in bed. Take some tylenol if you have it, and get some sleep. But leave the a/c alone. Once you are feeling better, you should consider purchasing a thermometer against future fevers. You tend to think you are much hotter than you usually are, and you feel really silly going to the ER to discover it's just over 100. Then you are stuck waiting for hours and are much more miserable than you'd be in your own bed and jammies.

It seems to me that it is a waste of time answering this type of question ,as a certain person spends their life writing books on here !Which may have some relevance in the US, but some treatments and drugs are different in England. And to the yahoo twits. This IS an answer, here it is. Yes lower the temperature, that is a recognised treatment.

You have an infection I recommend Amoxecillian 500g or liquid 300g, They are the cheapest but most effective antibioitic on the market. They are prisciption only. If you feel cold thats your bodies immune system, dont get bundled up in covers.

No need to be bundled up. Just keep your room at a comfortable temperature. Get a bucket of cold water and use a washcloth on your forehead for relief.

Keep your room cool and alternate advil and tylenol every 2 hours. Also do what the others suggested, drink lots of cold water, hold a cool cloth to your face and a good one is to place ice packs in groin and underarms.
