okay, I am getting a laptop tomorrow and I have it narrowed down to two, identical except one have vista business and one has vista premium. I can get the one with business tomorrow at the store, but the one with premium is only available online at the moment. HP dv2220 vs. the HP dv2221. from what I see in teh additional multimedia software that comes on both computers I think that most of the things like photo and music stuff are provided with hp and 3rd party software bundled on the computers. I am not using it for business, but the security features sound apealing that come with business...however will I miss an premium features? like media center. etc. or will teh other bundled software make up for it. please help. thanks =)

Basically, Vista Home Premium has media center capabilities. Vista Business does not have media center capabilities, but as you pointed out, there are some security features that could be handy, and it also allows you to connect to a business's active directory domain. Both have the much advertised 3D Aero interface that seems to be the only real reason Microsoft has given on reasons to upgrade to Vista but basically boils down to eyecandy.

If you want everything that is available with Vista (business features and media center), then you need Vista Ultimate.

And don't forget Vista Home Basic, that has the media center and Aero interface removed.

You gotta love Microsoft for giving all of these options with such a large range of prices but small difference in features (retail cost of Vista Ultimate is $400, upgrade price of Vista Home Basic is $100). And don't forget Office 2007, which will tack another $150-$680 to the cost (although the costs may be less if you get it bundled with your computer).

Wading through all this mess makes me glad I switched to Ubuntu Linux.

Business have everything Premium have plus some. IF, I had to buy, I would get Premium as it have all I need, but, if you can get Business then I would get it. I try to find you the comparison chart at Microsoft.
Above may have what I got;
