Large den with corner fireplace and big screen tv. Fireplace is in corner opposite tv. Can't move tv because the only place to move it would be on the same wall as fireplace in opposite corner. Need ideas on how to make use of fireplace without tearing it out. Too costly. Fireplace is behind all of the furniture and makes room look backwards and off balance. Please help!!!

Have your fireplace as your focal point. Decorate it, use flowers, picture frames, candles, etc. on the mantle. Invest in an entertainment (with doors, so you can hide the T.V.) and put your T.V. in it. Put the entertainment center on the wall by the fireplace and re-arrange the furniture.

The flower thing sounds good but I'd use it as a backdrop and not move the furniture. Depending on your taste, start with a large rattan fan or brass piece to cover up the firebox. In some areas people routinely cover their fireplace with a decorative screen or fan during the summer and set pots or greens or flowers on the hearth. If you are good with houseplants and don't mind the work, try some taller plants like palms or ficus. If you don't want to mess with live plants there are some very nice artificial trees at Lowes or Home Depot can be put in baskets or pots and will hide the whole face of the fireplace. If there is a mantle you can use an artificial floral or greenery swag and a few pretty taper type candles . Be sure the flue is closed before you start decorating or you can loose air up the chimney, hot or cold. I would start with a sketch or photo of the fireplace as it is now and take it with you to a store. A rough sketch lets you try different ideas and a photo will tell the sales people what they have to work with. Again, the big hardware stores have people who can help and they usually don't charge. You might take a look around Pier 1 or Cost Plus for ideas for the screen. But the plants or trees, real or artifical, will lighten the look of the cornor.
Have fun.

I would buy different sizes of candles (scented ones) and arrange them inside of fireplace, light them at night or special occasions. A warm feeling without the heat or the expense.

I have seen several things done but my favorite solution is to fill fireplace (if you can) with a really pretty candle arrangement- giving the illusion when lit of a working fireplace. You can also set plants in or in front of it, even using artifical plants.
