The TIN CAN I have has variable ridges, where todays aluminum cans are all consistant. The CAN I have is unopened, and rusted both insided and outside, because, there are three small holes in it and since it was found at the Gun Emplacement at the top of Diamond Head Crater, I have dated it to that period. Does anyone know of a (CAN Musium) anywhere in the states. Thanks

The tin can goes back ti Napolean's time.
The reason you see different ridge patterns is the same concept as tires. Different tool styles make different patterns. In 1847 Allen Taylor, an American, patented a machine-stamped tin can with extension edges. From there various people are credited with the improvement of the tin can.
