Dad was a Air Force Sgt, stationed at Pease Air Force base in New Hampshire. Mom lived in Reading Ma. and spent most of her summers in New Hampshire. Dad was dating Mom's cousin who lived in NH. In the spring of 1962 a group of mom's friends and cousins met up at the local bowling alley. Dad arrived alone because his date(mom's cousin)had become ill while they were out. Although Dad knew most of the group Mom was there with he had never met Mom until that night.
Needless to say they really hit it off. Dad broke things off with mom's cousin. They met in the spring of 1962 and were married in November 1962, love at first sight! They just celebrated 45 years together this past November.
Mom did not know about her cousin and Dad for a long time because Dad and the cousin were not in a relationship , they had been on only 2 dates because Mom's Aunt (her cousin's mom) disapproved of her daughter dating an Air force Sgt.
I am here today because my grandmother thought the world of my dad and because of a chance meeting at a bowling alley in Laconia, New Hampshire, Mom and Dad fell in love forever.

Well, this is truly a love story. My mother decided my Dad was the one she was going to marry --- he had the qualities she was looking for. Eventually he got tired of running, I guess, (besides he couldn't run that fast because he had polio as a child and wore a metal brace on his leg ) --- lol --- and they got married. It just so happened her sister married Dad's brother. My brother married my sister's husband's stepsister years later (both divorced). When Dad died Mom was so devastated and lonely. She had only recently got her driver's license (in her 50's) and Dad said the only reason why they passed her was none of the DMV examiners wanted to drive with her again. And Dad had taken care of paying all the bills, writing checks, etc. Anyway, Mom looked up a guy who had proposed to her when she was in her 20's (he was a Navy man and they were known to be wild and besides she only had eyes for Dad at that time). He lived in ILlinois back then -- so she called information and when they found out who she was looking for, they said wait a minute and looked in surrounding areas and found him! She phoned him -- after 45+yrs! - he had been a widower for 6 yrs. and an unhappy marriage -- to make a long story short, he proposed over the phone without even seeing her in over 45 yrs., gave up his job and everything and flew out here and married her (in a church wedding). They were like young sweethearts all over again -- and she was lucky to have him for 10 yrs. -- now we're looking for her a younger man. lol. Her swimming partner just got remarried (ran off to Tahoe) at age 85! You're never too old for love!

Their 2 families were already connected by marrriage. This is hard to explain and probably boring when I get through with it, but here goes anyway. My father's brother was married to my mother's aunt!!! True. @8-) P.S. So that particular aunt was my great aunt also (on my mother's side). @8-)

Neither one of them told me anything about that. I think that my Dad was the only boyfriend Mom ever had. Her father sheltered his girls and kept them away from boys.

Not going to go there . . . . but it had something to do with the backseat of a 1950-something Ford.
