flowergirl...if your grandmother took milk thistle, all it did was lower her alt and ast levels which are responsible for the occurance of cancer cells if elevated-it does NOTHING else. hcv is a virus, it is not cured by herbs. your grandmother is still sick. the hcv virons (quasispecies) are still causing damage. milk thistle does not kill hcv.
now, for the answer to the actual question: your ultrasound showed fatty liver. alt and ast levels are high due to nash. (fatty liver).
of course, there could be another disease such as hcv as many heppers have this very "dual' issue. we call this disease "bi-directional" of having hcv.
sometimes however, nash can be hereditary as well.
keep following the diet, however, since your symptoms have not improved, it would be wise to see the doctor and ask about hcv-everyone has at least one risk factor for this double stranded rna virus that needs the liver to thrive.
good luck

This enzymes get high usually when you are going through some kind of hepatitis. Not always hepatitis is a sexual disease, so don't worry about what people may think.
If this levels have been high for so long, then you may be facing a chronic hepatitis, which is usually developed as a consequence of hepatitis B. You must take care of yourself, you should rest a lot... and i mean a lot, that is even more important than a light diet.
Your levels are not that high actually, but do match closely to a chronic state. I went through hepatitis A due to a sandwich I ate... later on i sued the restaurant because, when healed up, I bought another sandwich and got it analyzed.
Anyway, during the accute phase of hepatitis A my levels went up to 2000... I couldn't even swallow water.
I don't reckon you should be doing any excercise AT ALL but walking at home when you have to get up from bed beacause you need something.
It took me two weeks to start working part time again, and four or five weeks to start working full time again. But during the first two weeks I stayed in bed.
Do get a lot of rest... it is confusing to me that any doctor tells you to excercise when your liver shows such levels on SGPT and SGOT.
Take good care, lots of water (2 lt a day at least), no milk, no cheese, no ham. LOTS of honey, brown sugar for your tea.
Nothing canned or with preservants and colorants.
Good luck... and maybe try a different doctor.
Regards, Lifeguard.

Yes that could be secondary to that. But there are also some other diseases that could make it elevated. Better yet have yourself tested for other type of Hepatitis (B & C). Other causes are fatty liver disease (most common) and alcoholic liver disease. Your drinking prior to blood examination cannot increase both test that fast. It most likely be on that level for more than 6 months already. Since you are also complaining of on and off right sided pain you might really have liver problem. Other possible cause of R sided pain is a gall blader stone. This could also present with elevation of SGPT and SGOT. Other lab test are needed to confirm this diagnosis. The best initial test to request would be an ultrasound of the liver to include the gall bladder. Have yourself tested every 6 months for the liver profile.

Don't take Tylenol or any other acetaminophen, it can be very bad for your liver. Don't drink alcohol. Consider taking Milk Thistle and Kudzu, these herbs can be very helpful for liver conditions and have put certain forms of hepatitis into remission. My grandmother had Hepatitis C and she is in remission now because she took it.

In the mood for a hot meal? Make a enormous pot of veggie bean soup, divide into two-cup containers, and store inside the freezer. Before bed, place a container in the fridge, then grab it before heading out the door each morning.
