yoga will tone your whole body

Sit-ups and other abdominal exercises will build the muscle under the fat; it isn't actually possible to lose fat from only one specific area [unless you count liposuction]. However, your abs will look more toned because of the additional muscle. If you want to lose fat on your stomach you have to lose fat all over your body. A combination of cardio and weight training works best for most people. Most gyms have trainers to help you figure out a good regimen if you're a member.

well, i'm facing the same problem but i've come up with a few tips that i got from fitness mags n fitness websites.

1. eat healthily, moderately, accordingly. get to know your food. you are what you eat.

2. get physically active. have a physical routine daily. use stairs more often than escalators or elevators. park your car further a bit so you can walk more.

3. get a full body workout. don't just focus on the problem area. this will help to increase your body metabolism. don't overdo it.

4. get enough rest and sleep. rest and sleep are vital to get the best result. our body need time to heal.

5. set your goal. a logical goal. lose a few inches and pounds monthly will be better than drastic weight decrease.

6. put a poster of a guy with six-packs next to your mirror. this will help you to have motivations and a positive imagery in your mind will be a boost.

(p/s: sit-ups with a few other abdominal exercises do work but with the right recipe and precautions)

Angela,

No amount of exercise, machine or diet will make you loose fat in a localized area of your body. Fat will be burnt when the metabolism is out of glucose, which is produced from carbohydrates.
So, eliminate sodas, cookies, junk food in general (they are all low quality carbs that will add to the fat if not burnt by exercise).
Sit ups will tone your abs and that is always good to have, but they won't reduce the fat. Only your interior metabolism can remove the fat from the cells and burn it. Some medications accelerate the metabolism, so that it burns faster, but they can cause serious side effects in some people.
Avoid them!!! Stick to a healthy diet and regular exercise and you won't go wrong with it.

You can't spot reduce, so you can do all the situps you want.

The tummy fat may be from genes. It may be tough to get rid of, but it's not impossible. You have to eat a healthy, balanced diet, and exercise regularly. Try eating organic foods, and try avoiding processed foods. Switch to whole grains.

Try doing cardio 3-4 times a week for about and hour, and try lifting weights. I'm not saying you'll lose all your tummy fat, but you'll have a better body, and a healthier body.

The only way to lose that last few stubborn pounds around the waist is to lower your body fat percentage. For guys, you'll need to get around 10% to see the love handles disappear. You can measure your body fat percentage pretty easily (see link). Once you have this, make it your goal to get down to the weight you need to through a healthy diet & fitness plan. Good luck!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
