also without the flash, how can set my lens/shutter speed to get a decent indoor pic?

Hope you have a tripod because you arent going to get a good clear shot indoors without flash. Change it to M mode or Manuel mode. Set your shutter speed to 1/80 or slower. The slower the shutter speed the more chances with you to have blurry imagines.

Trial and error, I'd say, and don't expect anything spectacular.
Set the camera to manual, aperature to f/2.8 and then try whatever shutter speed gives you the least dismal results.
The faster the shutter speed you use, the less contrast you will have, and the slower the shutter speed, the blurrier the picture you will have due to shaking. A tripod is a good idea, in fact a necessity, but even then you're not going to get anything great, given you're only using $300 camera.
