If your boyfriend likes to drink, not much you can say will stop him. I dated a guy who liked his beer after work... he'd call it "a couple" but it would be a six-pack, at least. They just get touchy when you call them out on something that's not a big deal to them. When I tried to talk to him about the fact that he was drinking too much, he got extremely defensive. We ended up breaking up.

Do you mean like drink a lot, like bordering on a disease or do you mean like a couple of drinks. Does he disrespect you? What you can do is be like look I love/like/however you feel about him, but I don't like when you drink and so I would like if you didn't drink around me. If he doesn't get the clue then *shrugs* if he is mean to you when he drinks bring that up. He might not realize that he is doing it, or that he has a problem. I dated a guy that was a drunk all the time and I hated it when he drank and so I just did not spend time with him when he was drinking.

You can't change a boyfriend........(unless he is wearing a diaper)

You can nag and you can *****.....you can preach, or you can whine or whimper....and as you can see.....he's not listening. Fact is, if the drinking is notably a problem it is something you would be compelled to be overbearing about.

Tell him: Me or the drink. You choose.

You are a smart woman. You are too smart for him. If he cares he will choose you. If he doesn't, you should celebrate that you found out early that his problem is quite serious.

they usually try to promise rewards for not drinking or try to make it so there isn't any beer money

the best way would be to make it nicer for him if he doesn't get drunk

a few beers are actually a healthy thing for some folks sometimes

I think the scientific literature says like 2 drinks a day is optimal, better than abstaining even. Especially red wine.

Well, if the drinking is a constant thing, and it is honestly bugging you.. I say just leave him. Maybe the fact that you left him because of his drinking will get it in his head that he needs to stop.

my guy used to beat me when he was drunk evan when i was pregnent but he never drake often so i still loved him. be you know how i got him to stop. i got his friends to see how he treated me when he drank and they told him that it would be best if he layed off for a while and he quit. or record him being a loser on your cell phone or any thing. make him look at it 2 days later. not when he's got a hang over because he will not pay attention.

if you don't like it leave him and find a better one who is better for you or have talk with him warn him and if that doesn't work then go.
