I heard somewhere that school is a cause of teens commiting suicide. I can actually understand that because parents make it seem that school is your life, and if you fail, YOU FAIL LIFE. Right now i feel like shoooting my self, because i failed a stupid final.

Anyways back to the question:

DOES SCHOOL MAKE KIDS COMMIT SUICIDE? Any articles of this on the net? PLease discuss.

School's can't make you do anything. Your reaction to what goes on in and around them are your own. Failing a test is not the end of the world....trust me I have failed enough tests to know. Tests are supposed to be a measure or a reflection of what you have learned in a class...but everyone can have a bad day or a bad test. It has been my experience that tests do not always reflect the material covered in class or can approach it in a totally unexpected way...resulting in an unhappy result. Learning how to fail and move on from the experience is as important as getting those A's.

As a parent I worry about how my children will succeed in life if they don't strive and learn how to work to do their best all the time. Will they get into college? Will they get a good job that will earn them a livable wage? Will they be happy at what they choose to do? Will they have to struggle and deny their kids because they live paycheck to paycheck and have no savings for emergencies or vacations? I try not to pressure my kids too much about grades, but I do expect that they work for A's & B's...studying a resonable amout of time, doing all their homework, and trying. And yes, I get mad & scared for them when they bring home a failing grade....the compitetion is tough out there....and no one will care how they "feel" when they are out there alone.

Learn from your final....look at what you did to prepare for it, look at the positive and the negitive and turn the page. One thing I have taught my kids, if it isn't going to matter to you in 10 years...brush it off and move along...as long as you made an honest attempt and worked hard then you have nothing to be ashamed of. No test/final is worth killing yourself over. Good luck & Best wishes.

I remember watching a documentary a generation ago on the differences between education in America and in Japan. It seemed like the standards were much higher in Japan, perhaps to the point that a failing student in Japan would experience more dishonor than one in America.

I also think we can find the opposite problem too. It's possible to care too little about education and reap the negative consequences of our ignorance.

Your life must really suck if you want to kill yourself over a final.....

School is important because it sets you up for what your life is going to be like in the future.

In my opinion, I went through high school and thought the same thing (This is hard and it's lame I even have to go through it) But now that I think about it, it wasn't that the material covered in high school was hard it was just that I didn't want to do it! Think about this, millions upon millions of kids graduate and complete schooling odds are you have to be smarter or at least up to par with these people. If they can do it, you can do it. Just stick with it trust me I know it sucks but if I did it, you can do it.

I'm a teacher who is teaching middle schoolers how to deal with these issues, actually this week!

School, parents, pressure, stress, depression, and anger are all reasons for suicide with teens. However, there are many more.

If you feel this way, you need to talk to someone you trust. You're stronger than whatever you're going through.

Um. I supposed it could. It all depends on how strict the family is, how seriously the kid takes school, etc.

There are many articles about peer pressure. If you mean actual schoolWORK I doubt it's as big a factor as peer pressure is, but it could be one.

And don't shoot yourself, because, thats a HUGE mess to clean up.

Hahah! nonetheless, I could say, i like Romeo & Juliet, Julius Caesar, and The Odyssey. and that i like A tale of two cities and The Scarlet Letter. yet, sadly, no suicidal strategies right here. i'm way too chuffed-bypass-fortunate for that. =)

well yes it can. The kids might get bullied at school. that is 1 reason. They also might get bad grades, thinking that they will be failures in life they commit suicide.

pretty much. the amount of stress put on children can be overwhelming at times especially with parents peeking over children's shoulders. it can be very stressful.
