2 scanners active at the same time will interfere with each other, and may miss a virus, or may also give false positives. Settle on one. If you want a free one, use AntiVir, and get rid of Norton. If you have subscription time left on Norton, use it and it only until the subscription is up, then delete it totally, and install AntiVir. Also get Spybot Search and Destroy, and a Zone Alarm firewall.

Your intuition about Norton is correct...it is crap! It is more of a pain than it is worth, plus it takes up a ton of system resources. Get rid of it and your computer will run much faster. You will also save $50 a year (another reason why I hate it...they make you renew every year).

And to answer your first question, No...you probably should not run 2 virus scanners. I am sure it will cause unpredicatble results like crashing, etc and would probably cause false positives on viruses. Get one good one and keep it updated.

the main suitable antivirus and antispyware isn't a software. you won't be in a position to get carry of it. you may desire to enforce it. stable protection calls for a multi-layered approach, and the least significant layer via a great way is working some form of anti-malware software (actually, while you're looking after all the different layers, you do no longer even choose for an anti-malware software making use of up extra components). so as of magnitude: a million. Create and use particularly much completely a constrained person account particularly of the default administrator account abode windows contraptions you up with 2. examine up on social engineering and the thank you to stay away from it 3. do no longer get carry of unlawful copies of utility, music, or video clips 4. Set abode windows updates to place in right away 5. Make known backups. If obtainable, back up the finished setting up (making use of Norton Ghost or Acronis actual image)

You can have two in your PC But run one at a time .I think that you can select a standard antivirus software. I have come across a website that gives a brief study on computer viruses and their removal. It is very useful.I recommend that you go through this study and then decide. Please visit

You also try to select and install a suitable anti spy ware from the following link to protect the Pc against spyware attacks.

i used almost everything antivirus and antispyware in my pc. i can tell you for sure that avast av and norton are not safes. norton use too much memory and is very very very slow. at the moment i use eset nod32 - spybot search and destroy and nothing else. pc is running much faster and safer. looks like i upgraded the hardware. there is a trial version of nod32 here:

spybot s&d is free for ever. google it.
don"t use 2 antivirus programs it"s not safe.

provided you do have the harddrive space it is wise to run two antivirus programs because one hopefully will catch what the other one dosen't but definitely dump norton

I would say no because i think that the programs could cancel each other out then they would be useless and a waste of money.
