My daugher is 2 1/2 and we're trying to potty train her. I was just wondering when most people got their kids using the potty? And about how long it took you to teach them?

Usher M is an IDIOT!!!

2-1/2 is a perfect age to start potty training. I started at that time with my son and am now starting to train my daughter. It took about 6-8 months for my son to fully get it. My daughter, who is 2-1/2 now is hesitant. But she definitely does not like the feeling of wetness in her diaper. When you have day at home with you child try taking her to the potty several times a day. Even if she doesn't go, its ok. I did a sticker chart for my son and he loved it. I am going to start the same thing for my daughter. Basically they get a sticker every time they go in the potty. They are very proud when they can see all the stickers they accumulate. Put the chart up someplace visible, like on the fridge. She be on her way in no time.

PS: This is the time most of my friends started with their kids and their girls took about the same amount of time.

First off can she sit on the toilet and pull her pants up or down? If so that's a sign she's ready. Does she tell you that she's pooped or is wet? That's another sign.
Boys tend to be easier to train than girls, i don't know why. My son was day trained in only a few months. Nightime took much much much longer as he was a very deep sleeper.
Suggestions, if you use underware or pullups be consistant. Keep them on all of the time. I suggest pull ups. Also take her with you when you go potty. Talk to her about it so she'll understand. Let her look in the toilet and tell her what you did. This will help her understand.
Also use a reward system. I suggest a small lollipop or sticker when she does use the potty. Make a big deal and get excited about it with many compliments. She'll think pottying is fun. Good luck.

Introducing the potty chair or toilet seems to work best when the child has their 2nd birthday. Don't push too hard. They will show an interest and that is when you "jump" at the opportunity and go full force with training. Remember to positively reinforce it and not get discouraged, especially in front of the child. If you wait too long after they turn 2, they start to say "no" or "I don't want to," and it becomes difficult. I wouldn't start before the age of 2 unless the child shows a strong interest. If they are close to or have turned 3, I suggest going straight to underwear. Kids don't like being wet, so they will "get it" faster that way. Another tip...only use Pull-Ups for nap or bed time. It confuses the child more than anything if they have them on during the day.
Good luck!

My daughter was almost 3 before she was trained, my son was much faster and was trained at 2 1/2. We tried all the approaches, and quite honestly our little miss sunshine couldn't have cared less whether she was wet or dry or stinky or clean. I guess every child is different, but I learned that I shouldn't have started the potty training process unless I was absolutely committed. Starting for a while and then deciding, oh she's not ready we'll give her some more time, was totally counterproductive.

In my experience, girls are easier than boys. In general. There are exceptions. This is not a bad time. Start slow, and know it goes in phases. My son did best when I took away all his diapers and pull ups, and let him be naked. We stuck close to home, and it took about a week to be potty trained during the day, but another year (yes a year) until he was consistently dry through the night. Don't sweat it, and be easy on her. Good luck!

if it is a girl and she needs help potty training, u can actually help by turning on some water and it will let her go pee pee. when ever she can walk she will be able to use it, but im sure she can walk now. they usually get them before there 2. it can take them either a week to a month just to get them potty trained.

My daughter is only 1 so i don't know with her. I plan on starting when she is 1.5. My brother and wife started their little one potty training at 1.5 and it took them 6 months with a couple of little accidents after that. Now he is 2.5 and only has the odd accident if he gets excited.
