Also, are there different materials manufacturers use to make these inflatable kayaks? And, if yes, which material is best?

Bass Pro shops will have a variety in kayaks and in materials also with different prices. You can also purchase them at Wal-Mart but their not as good in material as a Bass Pro Shop.

My wife has a Stearns, and it has held up impeccably well for 10-12 years now. I think we paid about $400 for it then. It has not seen a lot of hard use, I am mostly impressed with how well it has held up in storage. It may sit for a couple of years in its bag, either in our crawlspace, or garage, and shows no signs of wear, mildew or dry-rot. We've never put a patch on it, and when she inflates it, usually never adds any air to it, (this would be for periods of up to a week) unless we have a really cool morning. My dad was a white-water outfitter for years, and said he was impressed with it for the money. I don't know how serious of a kayaker you are, if it's casual, it would suit your purpose nicely.

I recommend checking out paddling.net. Lots of experienced users there for advice, and reviews of all kinds of paddling craft.
