Back at home with my parents we have 3 male cats, all neutered at different times. The one was neutered at a fairly young age and we have no problem with him backing up to things. The second we adopted as an adult and neutered him at maturity, again no problem. Our third is an alpha male and we adopted him and neutered him at maturity; at first when his was fixed he would still back up to things. However, this behaviour became less frequent and with a little water we got him to stop almost completely. We only have flare-ups when there is a new cat in the neighbourhood and his territory is threatened, we re-introduce the water and it settles down.

If you got him neutered to stop him from urinating in the house it can take time for the hormone level to drop so his urge to mark will stop. This can take weeks to months according to my vet when I took my dog in. However some dogs may continue to urinate on things even though they are neutered. Make sure you clean the places he has urinated in with an ammonia-free cleaner or he may go there again. Good Luck!

Either you waited too long to get him neutered and the habits were already formed.

OR

You haven't waited long enough for the testosterone to work its way out of his system. It usually takes 72 or more hours for that to happen.

If you neutered him when he was a puppy and it's been awhile since the surgery, call a professional trainer or ask your vet for some advice to get out of the habit.

sounds like he's still marking his territory. I once had a friend who kept cats & because of the smell I won't keep pets inside; the smell is the scent they give off. The ONLY pets I ever want around R outdoors. U may want 2 consider adapting the cat 4 outdoors.
