Just be a witness for that person. Get a Romans Road or other Salvation, verse prayer, and have the person pray it to God and you be the witness. Then be there for this person afterward to direct to the right church, and to be a spiritual mentor, etc.

What do you mean should you be a hero? Does it cause major neglect? Assuming that you are talking about turning her in, you do realize that you will cause this 5 year old much anxiety, and trauma. She will be put in foster care until it is decided if the mother is capable. Is this your idea of hero? don't get me wrong, if it is REALLY that bad, yes, do it. If its just that she does it to much for your liking, be careful what you do.
My goddaughter's mother was that bad and I turned her in. I confronted her first, and I told her what I was going to do. I also told her I loved her and the kids and that is why I was going to do it. Long story short, she lost the kids for nearly two years. I was prepared to see her through it (I took my goddaughter). I was there for her. She was angry and basically hated me at first, in the end, she did thank me and we are still friends. That is HER story, she was really truly that bad. Selling herself, her kids in the path with inappropriate behavior to them (I think you can figure that out, I am not going to detail). Anyway, in this case, it was really needed.
Don't be a hero unless it is really needed, be a friend and talk with her. Don't get caught up in being a hero, as you put it. Glory is for God, not you.

It's not being a hero by converting someone who is young and impressionable.
The best thing you could do is call the police and voice your concerns about the mother.

Are you saying that you're planning on using a 5 year old's vulnerability to convert her to your religion?
If you just want to help a child who needs help, then yes, do THAT. Don't use her sad situation as an opportunity to preach religion.

Hero by her life situation or just converting a child and leaving her to that life?? Guess a child is an easy target if god is paying by commission, huh?

This is a five year old?
If so, you may want to wait unless she can clearly understand Christ finished work on the cross.
Shalom.

About all you can do is keep them in prayer, live your faith in a loving way in front of them, and ask God to send "laborers" across their path to help plant and water his Word. Then get ready for the miracle that will follow....

You want to be a hero? Befriend and protect the child. God will do the rest.
