It will hurt for three or four days, then get better. However, in a month, when the doctor adjusts the braces, it will hurt again for about three days. I had braces, too, and can remember that my mouth hurt so bad that it hurt my teeth for my lips to touch them. This went on for four years, but it was worth it. So, for these days, and all the days to follow after each adjustment, plan on eating mushy things, like mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs, and ice cream. Shoot, I couldn't even drink a milkshake through a straw. Good luck, and keep focusing on the end results!!

I remember having braces when I was a kid, so I know what you're going through. Believe me, what you are experiencing is totally normal. Your teeth will be sore for the first few days after getting your braces, as well as every time you have them adjusted. But after a few days the soreness will go away and you can eat solid foods again. Until then, try milkshakes, yogurt, oatmeal, grits, applesauce, soup, mashed potatoes, jello, pudding, ice cream, etc.

What worked for me:
Mashed Potatoes
Mac N Cheese (overcook the noodles slightly and it will help. I also kinda swallowed it instead of chewing.)
Jello
MilkShakes (You could also fix a fruit smoothie, since those are healthy.)
You could also try something like tomato soup.
Rice is a good idea too.
It will get better in the next few days. I promise. Take 2 advil every 4 hours, and 2 Tylenol inbetween your advil. It gives more pain relief and you won't overdose.

I know that you might hate it, but eat oatmeal, very soft foods that do not require chewing. I have the experience, and it will also happen when you tighten your braces... It sucks, I know.
Take tylenol or advil for your pains, ice cream will be a great supply for your diet! (haha)
So oatmeal, soup (with substances that you can chew), and ice cream if you want to

Firstly, the begining always hurts REALLY BAD when you try to eat food. This is normal. I know because i have braces myself. You should eat things like soup of yam or banana, they're very soft... cut the banana in circles so you don't have to bite it off the thing itself that hurts :)
I know how youre feeling :( hope this helps! :) :) IF it still hurts then LAUGHT OUT LOUD LOL is the cure ! :) :)

You can take a pain reliever like Advil to help with the pain. That should allow you to chew something soft like pasta, bananas, yogurt, applesauce, soup, bread dipped in your soup, macaroni and cheese, cup of noodles. Anything like like should do the trick. In 3 days, you will be able to chew most anything.

Wait it out for a few days. Drink milkshakes, eat oatmeal, jello, etc. in the meantime. Everytime you get an adjustment you will have to do the same thing.

I ate PB&J sandwiches whenever I got my braces tightened. It feels like substance and you can just sort of mush it around so you don't have to chew. Milkshakes also do wonders for your sore gums and they are delicious. Good luck- it won't last forever and you will be so happy you did it.
