Ask yourself these questions:
How old was the peanut butter/ was it old and eaten following its expiration date?
Were there any costly medical bills resulting from her illness?
Have you still got the container and infected product?
If you answered yes to any or all of these questions then you might find an attorney who will take the case. But don't count on making alot of money off of it, since your grandmother has recovered, buddy.
By the way, I am happy to hear she is better.

Why is this country so sue happy?
People get sick from stuff all the time. Salmonella is a big cause of illness in people who travel out of the country. But they don't go around suing local restaurants or water plants or the airlines. Don't blame the company. They didn't purposefully pack salmonella into the PB. They did the right thing by telling everyone. They will suffer too in the form of lost sales and of course the large recall going on right now.
It isn't worth it to you or your grandmother to sue them. It's a lot of stress and work and pain and mostly likely you'll just break even.

You can sue over anything. The question is should you. You will no doubt find a grubby lawyer who'd be happy to take 60% of any winnings.
The hard part is proving that there is permanent damage. This usually has to happen before you win the kind of money that would allow you to buy a beach house or a loaf of bread.
If you do win that much money, then your grandma's illness would prove what we already know: a mistake was made. This way, the company loses boatloads of money, and a few measley factory workers get to wonder how to feed their kids while looking for new jobs.

Why would you want to do that??????????? I'm very sorry that your grandma is ill, but to sue over this???
This is probably one of the top 10 reasons why manufacturing & business in this country is failing. Not to mention our health care system. In my state Dr's are running for the border because they can't afford the malpractice insurance.
For any little reason we want retribution for our wrong!!!! I can understand if your grandma wasn't covered medically, but it sounds like you are looking for a payday. It's not ethically right.
Lets suppose that your grandma makes an eggsalad for the family picnic & everyone who eats it gets sick, should they sue your grandma??? She made everyone sick! Though, she like the peanut butter company has never made anyone sick before. Should this one mistake require such drastic actions?
Things happen. Your grandma is on the mend. Spend your time loving her instead of ways to find easy money.
Heck if you really want to sue someone, why don't you go after all those responsible for ruining our planet with pollution. Now that is a grevious wrong done willfully and without regard for anything beyond profit. You can start with Bush for making those scientists lowball the envirionmental effects to protect his buddies interests.

You can't. If she is a dependant of someone else, than maybe they can. It totally depends on if she might have known that the PNutbutter was contaminated and if she sought medical attention right away. This may not apply to you but why do most people think of what they can get out of someone's elses mysery?

Check the news, this has been reported a lot. Over 300 people have gotten salmonlla (like your granny) from the PB. Call the company.

"We" couldn't sue, but it sounds like your grandmother may have grounds for a lawsuit. I'm sure there is a class action suit agains the company or there soon will be.

Go to your local courthouse the may have a pro se department that can answer your questions. Most employees can't answer them though be aware of that, it is legal advice. But many courthouses have attorneys that are willing to answer for free and tell you how to go about and ways to represent yourself. Just as for Pro Se (prosay)

Well, your grandmother would have to do that. She would have to contact a lawyer to find out if she has a case. If they say she does, they will represent her and get paid out of any money they get for her.
