The last rights - before they die, the priest performs a sacrament which includes forgiveness of sins. It is sort of the last chance to take a bath before you go before the King....sorta

It is called last rites. It is where a priest will come in and pray over you and annoint you with oil and pray for you to go to Heaven and give you a chance to confess your sins to him so he can forgive you. If you read the bible, you will find the priest does not have any power to forgive sin but only God, which Catholics think priests are. It was called blasphemy when Jesus did it and He was God so what would it be for a mere human to call themselves gods?

It used to be called Extreme Unction but, it is really the Sacrament of the Sick. It is an anointing for healing. The reason that they used to call for it on a death bed (which they still do though) is because it removes all sin from the soul as well as delivers the strength one needs to heal or the strength one needs to die.

The correct spelling is Rite. It is really called Anointing of the Sick. It is a special Sacrament used for people when they are sick or about to go into surgery or are close to death.

They were probably talking about the "last rites". It's a little superstitious thing the Catholics do for dying people.

They meant last rites...for Catholics this is done when it's possible you might not live. The priest blesses you and forgives your sins (if you're able to confess you do). He grants you absolution and annoits you with oil.

"Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." (James 5:14-15)

Last rites? The sacrament is given before death.
