My cat comes and sniffs my nose when I'm sleeping as well!! When she feels "ok, this is enough sleeping!", she comes and starts walking around on me, licking my face trying to wake me up!! It has become a morning ritual!!
She's too sweet!!

My little boy cat, Harry has no sense of personal boundaries. He will come wake us up at 2 am because he is bored or because he wants me to pet him. I was told that because cats are very finicky that you should never reject their affection. But when he started this in June I decided that it was just not OK. He not only sticks his face in mine but he is purring loudly. I have tried to shoe him away, take him off the bed, yell at him and he usually leaves only to return later or the next night. I tried to shut the bedroom door and he scratched the door and cried all night. The next morning I saw he ruined the carpet under the door. I was furious so the next night I even tried a squirt bottle, which he hates, but that just made him mad. He did not bother me the rest of the night but he trashed the house, eating papers and knocking over a lamp. I will never squirt him again. Now I just give him a little pet and tell him that I am sleeping. He usually is OK with the 30 seconds of love and he goes to the end of the bed and goes to sleep. I wish you luck. I have terrible insomnia so when I am sleeping I really hate to have it disturbed by a cat but he is nocturnal and if that is when he need love then I guess I have to give it to him.

None of my current cats do that. One just rubs against your head till you wake up. And the other head butts really hard.
But when I was a teenager my Mum's cat velvet would stick her nose on Mums nose to wake her up when she had to go to the toilet ( she had to go outside to go to the toilet). Mum hates anything touching her nose so this woke her up immediately and freaked her out every time.
My old neighbours from when I was a kid, their cat would get under the blanket and get under their shirts and stick its nose right in the middle of their backs to wake them up.
Cats are really weird sometimes.

Well not to purposely wake me up, but my cat does put her nose in my face when she's fast asleep on me and snoring.

my cat won't put her nose on me put she'll get with in a inch of my face and meow til I wake up.
Once I do and pet her for a second she'll curl up next to me and go to sleep.

When your cat does that it means that it is currently possessed by the devil, and that the devil is trying to find a way to enter your mouth to consume your soul. They say that if you look closely into the cats eyes during the night that you can see the fires of hell as you are hypnotized so that the devil can have his fill.
Sleep well.

yes. i take it as a sign of affection. your cat thinks that you are his/her parent and its just their way of cuddling.
