I get add requests from people I don't even know, a lot of them looking for chemistry help...I find it annoying. Why can't they just e-mail through answers first, rather than presume I will add them in messenger?

Yeah I think that is pretty rude.

Sure you have the option of accepting or rejecting the invite but that is not really the point.

The fact that these people are only adding you because they want something from you makes it rude. I think the motive behind the action is the rude part.

I would not be offended if someone added me saying "hey I really like your 360 page and your questions/answers are great. Thought we could chat some time if it's ok with you"

But an add with "Hey, you are good at chemistry and I need help with my homework so I thought you could be my free online tutor" Well yeah that is rude.

I think a polite email requesting help would be more appropriate. You may well help them (if the mood takes you) but that still doesn't mean you want them on your buddy list.

You are right to be vexed so keep rejecting and blocking where required!

Take care..

Ps. I need some help with my chemistry homework so I added you to messenger. Sure you wont mind!

Yes, I refuse to add anyone without talking to them first.

I don't think it's bad ettiquette to block them.
That is rude.. and you don't have to feel obligated to accpt them.
Just block them if they persist... Good luck!

You should only have people you know on your buddy list.
