America can pass as many laws as it likes about online gambling or poker. But the major poker sites are not run by America. They are based in various foreign countries that couldn't care less what the American government thinks about online poker.
The new law does not make online poker illegal. No American has ever been arrested for playing poker online. The new law simply makes it illegal for American companies to participate in online gambling. Although actually the same law completely legitimatizes online horse betting, among other weird exclusions.
Frankly it is really sad that America has allowed public opinion to be ignored, and has sat back and done nothing while rights and freedoms are eroded.

Millions of U.S. citizens play poker and gamble online every day and not a single one of them has ever been charged, fined or prosecuted.
On September 30 2006, a new Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was passed. Does this change anything?
The new bill does not make online poker illegal.
The bill does not change existing gaming laws.
The bill does not touch the players.
And that why US players can still play. They made it harder for finacial transaction, that's it. For now.

Only illegal in USA (for money that is). Most sites such as oceanbreezepoker, fulltilt and fullcontactpoker offer US players free to play games. They offer everyone else in the world to play for money.

Why are drugs still sold illegally? It is for people who are still willing to risk it.
