Every time I read something that "proves" or "disproves" God's existance, I usually sway that way for the time being. I've gone from Christian to Athiest to Agnostic hundreds of times around. I know there has to be something that created this world, but who are we to know what it is? I think we give humans way to much credit for being able to figure stuff out. Science cannot prove or disprove creationism, or any of the hundreds of religions out there, and neither can philosophy.
So what happens if I go through life being clueless (as it seems God would want us to be if he indeed exists)? The Christians will say I go to Hell for not believing, and the Athiests say nothing happens. But wait, we all are going to hell, because there are many religions that say if we dont believe in them, than we go to Hell! And we have no way of knowing which religion is the one true one, no matter how long the human race is able to debate it......

We are all going to die someday, and only then will we know if we made the right choice with the religion we chose in life. But if there is no God, than we wont know. cause we'll be dead :(

Eds - I dont know what to make up that - who's to say it is the word of the lord? Some bored guy thousands of years ago could have had an idea to try and trick everyone into believing his story.

In my opinion, any God worth worshipping will judge you on what is in your heart. Have you been kind, honorable, truthful, thoughtful? From the perspective of my religion, Wicca, all religions are paths to the Divine (same destination, different scenery) and even if you don't have reason to believe in the Divine (for what can truly convince us but our own experience?), that doubt or disbelief will not condemn you to any Hell. The Gods love us as Their children, and everyone will be welcomed into Their embrace in the afterlife -- assuming one exists at all.
Just for a lark, you might want to try the Belief-O-Matic quiz at Beliefnet.com:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html
It's fun, and it will tell you which religion (or lack thereof) best suits your point of view.

"I know there has to be something that created this world,..."
That's a good start. But it would help if you knew how you know that.
"...but who are we to know what it is?"
There are things that even an unconverted individual can know about the creation and the God who made it. Many of the things coming out of the Intelligent Design movement are good proofs of God's existence. Look up their stuff and think about it deeply.
"I think we give humans way to much credit for being able to figure stuff out."
You are right. There is a limit to what man can learn of the truth on his own. That's why God gave us his Word, the Bible.
"So what happens if I go through life being clueless...?"
You'll be with all the billions of others who did not know God in this life. But hope is not lost, even on them. That is what the Second Resurrection is all about. In this life, only a very few were "called" (that is, invited) to know the truth of God. The rest will have to wait until God raises them up to mortal life once again, about 1000 years from now.
"...the word of the lord? Some bored guy thousands of years ago could have had an idea to try and trick everyone into believing his story."
It is your responsibility to prove that. This is well within the realm of human knowledge and understanding. Do the work. And most of all, ask God to help you every step of the way.
The world at large is blinded from knowing the truth of God; even theologians are blind and stupid in the eyes of God; beware of them. But individuals can know.
God calls the weak and lowly to confound the mighty (1Co 1:27).

this would be such a depressing way to think...but you are not alone. If you go sit in nature somewhere and just really study it....the "order" in nature could not have just "happened". Some higher being than us would have to have created it. People absolutely believe in the devil so easily....why would it be so far of a reach to believe in God? And if we do believe in God then we need to believe His Word which does tell about Him and gives the history of the world which is proof that He knows the end from the beginning....who else knows that? no one. We do have a way to know which religion is the true one....one that goes ONLY by what the Bible teaches.....look for that one! God is not the author of confusion....1 Cor. 14:33

* i understand your confusion. Even the bible claims there is only one churh, one fait ande way Ephesians 4:4,5,6, is just one scripture to back up my remark.but problem is which one?
I say read the New Testement with the attitude that it means what it says and says what it means and if you are still confused, could that not be proof it is written by man and not God? Or if you read things like baptism is essential for salvation, but churches say it is not, could that mean those who say it is not arw wrong?
Here is my opinion and take it for whatever it is worth to you. I beleive all religions are man's attempt to explain that which cannot be explained. Diety cannot be explained or understood by us humans.
I do beleive we were created, but I believe in pagan gods and goddesses now. i read the bible and it was the bible that saused me to realize it was not from one njelous God and was man's version of truth disguised as thw word of God, so i am now pagan because it makes more sense to me that diety cannot be explained and we relate to diety in the ways we can.
I cannot tell anyone else what to believe or that my belief is right for them, I can only tell you that Wicca is right for me and is my truth. You can find your truth if you seek it out. Eventually you will either decied taht you are agnostic, or you will find a Christian belief to hold on to, or you will say there is no god or gods and goddesses, or you will become pagan.
Just keep seeking and some day it will be clear to you.*

I keep in suggestions feeling the way you defined, at about your age. I end my church yet saved my God. I picked a school on a whim. I took center training and wildly numerous electives. As a junior, I nonetheless wasn't particular and almost dropped out. and then, without caution, one in each and every of those electives grabbed me. I knew quickly, after years of uncertainty, what I loved. Now, 36 years later, i'm nonetheless in love with my paintings and desire to be doing it yet another 15 or 20 years. Oh yeah, alongside the way i found an prepared faith that sufficiently augments my continuous connection to my God. don't be scared. you've time to target to fail many situations. Be solid sufficient to keep coming again. discover relaxing in the quest.

Try studying different religions and find the one that makes the most sense to you. I'm Christian, but I've done exactly what you said: I go from one religion to the other. I've said that I was Christian thousands of times before, but sometimes I really didnt mean it.
So, I looked into other religions, but none of them made sense. But when I looked into Christianity again, and actually studyed it, I realize that this is what I want in life.
...but that's just me.

I'm an evolutionist that believes, believing in god is part of human evolution, that is why ever human race had some form of belief in a god or gods even though they are not real(Egytians,Mayans, Greek ect.). So it really doesn't matter which side you chose because it is like having tonsils, you really don't need them but it doesn't hurt to have them. So you really don't need a religion but it wouldn't hurt to have it. This is why I believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster

When you start to think you know all the answers is when you really should be worried.
Right now your mind seems to be working which is what it was intended to do.
I suggest living your life based off certain reasonable assumptions which are healthy for you as well as others.
Philosophy and or Religion/Spirituality are not worth anything if they do not have a good measure of functionality.
Let yourself know it is ok not to know everything and simply have faith it will be alright. If you can do this it is exponentially increases the possibility that it will be so.

Eds answer says it all...but consider this you have to believe.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for
the evidence of things not seen.
simply put you have to believe due to the evidence of something
existing even though you can not see it.
example: the wind....you can not see it, but you can see evidence of it existing.
example: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison
you have never seen them, have no DNA to prove their existence,
but we have words written down in history as evidence of their existence.
example: GOD no man has seen God at any time, but we have
the Holy Bible written by inspiration of God, that has proven over the years to remain the same and will never pass away, but was written that we might believe, and thus know what to do and how to be saved. (refer to Eds answer)
Christ died so that all can be saved if they obey God's word and are faithful unto death.
True believers, Christians, have nothing to fear, nothing to lose. and everything to gain Philippines 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Try Buddhist philosophy, and don't take my word for it, nor the Buddha's, instead chew it over yourself and see what conclusions you come to. We Buddhists consider the idea of an omnipotent creator god to be illogical... and there's a lot written about it, more than I can put in here, but trust me if you understand what you find it'll sort things out for you. There are lots of books available online bookstores and your larger local bookstores like Barnes and Noble and Borders. One of my ultimate faves that you might enjoy, "The Quantum and the Lotus" by Matthieu Ricard and Trinh Xuan Thuan.
Hope you find your answers... I've been there done that.
