If the lump on his/her side feels smooth under the skin, and is easily moved around side to side, and does not feel attached to the ribs, it is more than likely a fatty tumor,or a cyst.. but to be certain.... take your pet to the vets office whereby they can do a biopsy of the lump, or if it is large, they will remove it.they will then send the tissue taken to a pathologist for examination. When lumps feel grainy,or bumpy under the skin, and are not mobile( attached to bone)they are most likely cancerous. BUT>>>>THIS MUST BE DETERMINED BY A VET>>>not thru yahoo answers..SO Please have this dog looked at!

Taking him to the vet won't hurt. Is this lump attached? My dog actually has a few lumps on him that aren't attached and my vet said they were fatty tumors that don't harm them. He also said just keep an eye on them and if they continue to grow or else bother the dog bring him back.

Please get to the vet. They can draw blood out of it and check to see if it is something bad. Also don't let the vet just look at it and say it is just something dog get. Keep a good watch on it for growth. If it changes from the first time you saw it that is not a good thing.Dogs can get the same thing we get. I just lost my 13 year old chow chow. It started with a lump at the base of his tale.

Sounds like a fatty tumor. Dogs get them a lot. If the dog is not bothered by it, then you don't have to jump on it, but I would have the vet take a look at it to let you know.

sometimes they get cysts or tumors or even if someone shot him with a bb gun could be that. you should take it to the vets when you can. If you cant afford it sometimes they have programs to help with the bill. usually dogs dont just get a lump for nothing..good luck.

It's always best to have the vet check him. I'm not trying to scare you, but I had a Britany Spaniel that developed a lump on her shoulder blade, and it turned out to be cancer. It could be just a cyst or benign tumor, but please take him to a vet. Better to be safe than sorry.

could be a fatty tumor, or something serious. Take your dog to the vet to make sure it isn't serious

Our lab had several benign fatty tumours on her sides and chest. It was about that size, and could move slightly upon palpation. Have your vet check it, they will biopsy to be sure.
