It can be both, depending where you are from. You'll usually find Mayo in the isle with the salad dressings and condiments! You can put it on a sandwich, or dress a salad with it.

Some consider it a thick creamy dressing because its a concoction of egg yolks, vegetable oil, lemon juice or vinegar and seasoning that have been emulsified. If we would take out the eggs it is a dressing. So I say that mayo is a dressing.

Well, now that I'm thinking about it, it can be both. A condiment on a burger or sandwich...and a dressing on cole slaw, pasta salad, or other salads.

its got a split personality cause some labels say salad dressing and others dont. do you call it salad dressing or do you call it mayo should be your question.

by itself it's condoment
if u add stuff to it, like when u add ketchup to it, it's thousand island dressing <--- Ketchup with mayonnaise forms the base of Thousand Island dressing... from wikipedia
