A good friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is going through radiation. Is there anything besides an aloe vera plant, that she could possibly use to relieve some of the burning?

Bobo, he just told her to use something with aloe. However, when I went to the store to find an aloe gel, I asked the pharmacy about it. They said there are better things for that and to consult her physician. She already did. Hence, of why I was at the pharmacy to begin with. Is there something better bobo for the burns?

Contact your radioligist but Iodoral taken orally reduces the side effects of radiaton and the burns. I was made so ill from radiation and it also affected my heart but iodoral was my life saver. I am amazed that doctors do not put everyone on it who receives radiation. It is Potassium iodide. If we had a nuclear attack you would want a trunkfull of the stuff around. That is what radiation is only you are getting it in smaller dosage.

Take a couple of ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and a pain pill if needed. Buy and apply the type aloe vera that also has Lidocaine as an ingredient to numb the inflamed skin. This is OTC and used for bad sun burns. Also use skin moisturizer. Repeat until the area starts feeling better.

Calling the radiation oncologist on call would not hurt, especially if these simpler measures did not bring relief. Ask the Dr whether steroid creams like hydrocortisone would be appropriate.

My mom had thirty radiation treatments for colo-rectal ca. She experienced horrible burns. The best thing that worked was preparation h. And she used it on her legs too. It reduced the swelling and helped with the pain. Now, of course, please have her ask the radiation md first. They also told mom bag balm was good. But it didn't help her. Sometimes, they just have to give you a break and stop for a few days to let you have a break!

The doctor who is doing the radiaiton has a special cream for this. Ask them for it. I can't remember the name. My husband got it when he had radiation on his brain and on his lung. I believe the name began with a B. Just ask them for it.
