Yes there is free speech but the NBA is a private non government company. They can ban or fire anyone they want.

This is a difficult one. While I agree that he has the right to say it, I suppose the NBA, as the governing body of the sport, has the right to ban him for his statements. If he had said "I hate white people, and don't want to play with them," they would have done the same thing.
I do agree that the whole PC thing has gone too far in general. However, even Charles Barkley, arguably the most outspoken man ever to play in the NBA, said that Hardaway's statements were stupid.

They didn't put him to sleep, you know.
He was working for the NBA in their Public Relations department. He said something that a lot of people aren't going to like, and whether you agree or disagree, the NBA's number one bottom line is to attract customers, not get in the middle of a religious and sexual debate. So of course they had to let him go from THAT position he held.

Freedom of speech only guarantees that you will not be put into prison for saying something. It does not guarantee that you will not be fired for saying something.
Do you expect a CEO of a company to start calling homosexuals f@gs or african-americans the N word without being fired?
Read and understand your constitution more closely.

Um...Tim Hardaway exercised free speech. That doesn't make him exempt from the repercussions of it, or of others exercising THEIR rights to freedom of speech.
As for Christian "bashing", that's a farce. Christians have created this false bubble around them, in which they think they are exempt from scrutiny, and any time they or their archaic, outrageous beliefs are questioned, they are being "bashed" or (my personal favorite) "persecuted".

I'm gay, I don't like basketball, but I hate what the NBA is doing to this guy. So he's openly homophobic and hates gay people? So WHAT? Since when was it a crime to express your opinions?
However, I bet you if I got in his face and called him a n*****, he'd prolly beat the living snot out of me. Should he not expect the same sort of backlash if he goes spouting his mouth off about gays?

Hardaway should sue for damages and compensation.
This is America and he is free to express, and the NBA should not punish him for free speech.

Tim Headway is a drug addict, trouble maker and steroid user. He should be barred from the NBA all together. Oh Hardaway he's just a Homo. No he shouldn't be banned for being a Homosapien.
