The document expires. The status does not. You do not lose permanent residence on the expiration date of your green card unless your status is conditional. Nothing to lose by waiting to see if your mom's naturalization comes through. If it comes through before you turn 18 you automatically become a citizen, but you still have to file an N-600 to get a certificate of citizenship. The N-600 is an application for papers to recognize citizenship. It is not an application for citizenship. If her naturalization doesn't come through or is taking too long, you can always renew your green card after the expiration date because your status did not expire. This is different from the expiration date on an I-94 card or a visa.

If you're under 18 I assume your mother included you on her naturalization application. If that's the case you'll become a citizen at the same time she does. Does she say she included you? Did you get your picture taken for the citizenship certificate?

If she's going to become a citizen soon, and included you, then you can just save your money because you won't need the Green Card much longer.

Take it from me , do not let your green card expire because you expect something else to go through .Also , You need to establish your citizenship through yourself, You already have the process underway , just keep with it/ I let my work authorization expire because I thought I'd get my green card soon . It didnt come and I wasnt able to get a lisence or work.

Renew your greencard while waiting for the naturalization of your mother. There will be a vacuum of your status if you do not renew your passport while your mother is not yet naturalized. The process might be costly but it is the procedure.

Ask the ICE task force...I'm sure they'll provide you with either a green card..or an exit card, which ever you're deserving of.
