Although you don't probably want to know what the ingrediants consist of, mechanically separated means that the meat products used are ground and separated before they are mixed with the spices and placed into the casings that create the hot dog.

Uh, that a machine pulls them apart or that the filling, so to speak, is mixed seperatly.
